Salem has been hit by the FCC over KRLA's labeling of shows.
Salem Media Group has entered a Consent Decree with the FCC and will pay a $50,000 civil penalty for violating the live broadcast rules by broadcasting prerecorded programming as “live” without announcing before the broadcast that the programming was prerecorded.
The FCC received a complaint in August 2017 stating that Conservative Talk “870 The Answer” KRLA Glendale/Los Angeles aired a program titled “HealthLine Live”, but did not indicate that the show was not actually live. Salem responded confirming that the show was pre-recorded, did not announce before the broadcast that the programming was taped, aired on multiple Salem stations, the host “suggested that he was taking calls from listeners and speaking with them live over the
air,” and and that the title of the Show and the apparent interactive discussions with callers suggested to a listener that the Show was being presented live. The station now identifies the show simply as “Heathline“. In addition to the fine, Salem is required to develop and implement a Compliance Plan within 60 days.
