under FCC rules--- is there a minimum amount of hours a commercial am or fm station must be on the air with programming each day? someone tried to tell me it's 8 hours a day. is that a continuous 8 hours? I mean--- 8 hours without any dead air or sign off?

Unlimited Time Stations - Operation is permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Station is required to operate at least 8 hours between 6am and 6pm, and at least 4 hours between 6pm and midnight.

Class D AM stations need only meet this regulation for the first period, 8 hours between 6am and 6pm.
