FCC says NO to expanding TIS programming

It will remain a "Travelers Information Service".
Traffic and emergency information will continue to be it's primary purpose.

The FCC said “We will continue to disallow messages that do not have a travel nexus, are not emergency-related, or do not relate directly to an imminent threat because such messages would dilute the convenience and efficacy of TIS,”

No, they can't run NOAA Weather Radio 24/7. They can only rebroadcast NOAA Weather Radio weather emergency info. Many a TIS station has gotten a Notice Of Violation from the FCC for doing so.

However, Amber and Silver alerts can be broadcast.

What about "placeholder" TIS stations? I think they should shut off the transmitter until they actually have something they need to broadcast. (Their saving grace is they ID frequently, so DXers don't have to wait long.)
