FCC Shutdown

I wonder with this shutdown will we see an increase in the number of AM stations that 'cheat' at night since they would much less likely get caught? Of course being a High School Football Friday night, there are stations already doing this. Staying on day power past sunset or all night? This could be a good time to snag some unusual AM catches.

1150 KAGO Klamath Falls had HSFB last night - sounded very strong.

Ditto 1600 KOHI St Helens OR, too strong for their flea power nights.

It will definitely jam up the LPFM Window. The FCC site is shut down.

Been told FCC Enforcement people are still working.
Any complaint filed now will eventually see the light of day.
No free get out of jail card.

I guess seeing to it that high school football games aren't broadcast at daytime power is on the essential services list. :)

They are not staffing too much of that stuff, but they are keeping a few folks around to look for downed aircraft, sinking ships, etc.
("Travel Budget", I guess)

Given the current state of affairs at the FCC, a shutdown will be a good thing because it will temporarily show down the glut of new stations creating more interference with existing stations.

I suspect there will be a lot of stations operating on football power during the shutdown. And on a related note, Commissioner Pai was lobbied by a small town broadcaster who wants every station to be allowed to operate with a minimum of 2500 watts at night. If that goes through, I guess the entire AM dial will sound worse than 1490... Incidentally, with only 38 FCC staff on duty, how many EB agents could there be?

As soon as it opens back up, I bet the glut will quickly go back to its normal level or may even go above it for a few weeks.
