FCC to announce NEW AM's & changes

FCC is set to announce the stations that applied to build new or improve in the AM band (54-1600 KHz)last January.

Entire list will be out at end of day.

Fate of WONX in Evanston, IL and other stations at 1580 and 1600 may be sealed upon publication of the MX List.

MX stands for 'Mutually Exclusive' so they have issues with other existing
facilities that will have to be corrected, or financially taken care of.

It seems like the upgrade for 1590 will be allowed by the FCC according to the release. However I still wonder if anyone will build it.

WKKD in Aurora, looks good to move to the Quad Cities.

WMCW harvard move to Weston Wi. does not seem to be in this document.
I think it will just go dark along with WCGO if the 1590 upgrade is done.

And Geneva IL. will likely loose its radio station to millbrook, IL.

The only thing I like out of this will be KKD moving to the quad cities.

So who is going to come up with $12 million + to buy all the stations and then build it? I think Frank was a little too late with this. No point in building it with FM multicast right around the corner. Very soon, we will 3X the number of FM stations to choose from. And cell phones with sirrus.

I predict newseb buys 1590 and keeps it as is in Evanston brokered. It a great station to broker. It does not need the upgrade. However what is the price going to be? Not what they want likely.

where did you find this info?

Re: WONX, WMCW and others

WONX has a problem with an applicants in Big Rapids, MI

But, they can settle with him financially.

WMCW moving to Weston-Wausau, WI is a done deal. The
application for construction permit is already in the
process, not subject to settlement.

Other Kovas stations will likely settle with applicants
for Quad Cities and another at Grand Rapids- Jenison, MI.

WCFJ 1470AM

With whom does NewsWeb need to settle in order to get the COL of WCFJ moved from Chicago Heights to Dolton? Please forgive me for my ignorance on this issue, but I am trying to figure it out without much success. Thanks in advance.

Good question... 1450 WCEV/WVON? 1490 WPNA?

They have a pretty nice tower array near Illinois 1 and Crete-Monee Road. Does anyone have an idea where they'll relocate (if at all)? WCFJ will still need to protect WMBD Peoria, of course. Maybe they're just doing a COL change to make a XMTR move easier in the future.

I thought WONX is located in Evanston, Ill.
