FCC Visits WKDE-FM 105.5 Altavista

The information is not yet on the FCC site, but WKDE-FM was apparently inspected for interference in the aeronautical band. Their old Bauer transmitter has often been a source of interference in the past - second adjacent WLNI Lynchburg has at times received complaints of interference from Campbell County listeners. Late last year I had an extensive phone conversation with owner Dave Hoehne, and told him that if he did not cure the problem by replacing that transmitter he would probably end up having an expensive visit from the Commission.

Oh my. I can't wait to read about this one.

It was doing that 5 years ago when I was there and told him he needed as new transmitter. I did some contract work for WKDE in those days

Is there a chance that WKDE is pumping out more than their allotted 6kw? I was on the 29 bypass in Danville the other day and KD Country sounded almost city grade. And I have a car radio with a six inch Mazda antenna...

No, that Bauer has trouble even making licensed ERP without splatter.

Danville is an easy downhill shot from the hill north of Altavista where the WKDE-FM transmitter site is located. Also, there is no stong signal on a nearby channel in Danville to interfere with it, just a first-adjacent translator.
