FCC Website

Has anyone other than me found the FCC website in general, and their search function in particular, to be completely useless? Something as simple as trying to get a current FM Table of Allotments always ends up a lost cause for me. Also, what became of the Silent FM and Silent AM listings? I haven't been able to find them for about a year. I used to have them bookmarked, but the URL for a lot of FCC info keeps changing frequently, making bookmarks useless.

If anyone has better luck than me finding a current FM Table of Allotments, I would appreciate a link.

How accurate is/was the silent stations list? There are some translators in my area that have never appeared on that list, yet they have been silent for more than two years.

The FM table of allotments was abolished a few years back, which is why you're not having any luck finding one. The current "table," such as it is, consists of everything in CDBS that's licensed or has a valid CP, plus a small table of vacant allotments found in the latest version of 47 CFR 73.202.

I know of at least 2 translators not on the silent list that have been off for years and years .No equipment at the site and still get license renewals... neat...

Thanks for the link. I haven't been able to find it through the search function for a long time. The bookmarked site said it no longer existed, but no link was provided to an existing site.

I take it there are no allotments as there used to be since the auctioning of frequencies came into effect.

And the silent list is full of errors. For example W246CE--taken silent under an STA in 2011 when it was operating on channel 247 (97.3)--the site had been lost.
Translator was sold to local AM station, rebuilt on channel 246 (97.1) and placed back on the air in early 2012.

Application filed for license to cover c.p., which was granted, translator has been on the air ever since--I hear it when I am over that way. Commission was informed of error on silent list last year. Did not sink in.

Sometimes Google is easier to search for stuff. I was looking for the silent station list last week and googled (now its a verb) FCC + SILENT and the first listing took me there.
Google is our friend! ;)
