Feb 2 on KFRC What's up?!?

They keep playing a different song twice back to back. The first time I heard it, I thought someone made a mistake. Then the next song came on. Then they played it again!! I get off of work, sure enough they are still doing it. What gives, a stunting for a stunting starting? Are they going to be MY 106.9? Or Fresh 106.9? Weird!

I'm guessing it was some sort of Groundhog Day reference...

According to their website - it's the "#2s Weekend" - all songs that made it to #2 on the chart, but not #1. So I guess the gimmick is - they're playing the Number 2s 2 times.

Kind of lame, but different...

Newsperson responds:

Twice in a row? A number 2 song is still overplayed. How about a song that made it to number 33 or 43? It would have been a hit but not worn out.

What ever happened to one-hit wounder songs? Will this still be playing Sunday?

No, it's Will You Be Staying After Sunday.

Speaking of one-hit wonder songs... ;D

(OK, two-hit wonder, but only if you're Bob Raleigh on WPGC.)

LOL hilarious. It is definitely a Groundhog Day stunt and not related at all to the #2's weekend. Just like the movie Groundhog Day.

Countdown until someone asks "how do you know" 3-2-1 :D

oldiesfan6479,

Stayin' After Sunday, that was Peppermint Rainbow from 1969 and I think it charted to around number 43. Did they have a second hit and if so what was it? Do have anything on the group you could send me? They sounded a lot like Spanky and Our Gang and in listening to the songs today the lead singer of the Peppermint Rainbow sounds better than Spanky.

On Sunday I did try and tune in KFRC on 106.9 in Sacramento and 106.9 from Reno comes in better. In fact the old KFRC on 99.7 penetrates up I-80 a long way towards Sacramento. It not until Vallejo until 106.9 came in good.

I heard the number two songs and they still sound worn out. The old KFRC is gone.

I was on vacation in the Yosemite Valley two years ago - turned on my car radio, and Cammy Blackstone came blasting out. It was frightening. Damn! I wasn't going to Cammy-bash anymore...sorry.

My point is - 99.7, and a number of the other San Francisco FMs are very strong to the east - WAY past Sacramento.

The charts according to Joel...

Will You Be Staying After Sunday peaked at #32, while the group's
follow up Don't Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael topped out
at #54 in the summer of 69. No mas, at least on Billboard.

The reelradio.com long-charting mega-aircheck of Bob Raleigh on WPGC
Morningside, MD (Washington) includes the second song.

Google "Peppermint Rainbow" and you'll get all sorts of info.
