The biggest gainer this month was EXTREME ROCK RADIO. April was by far their best post-Stern month ever. In the April extrap they were #2 25-54 (behind SUNNY) and #1 18-34. Adam Corolla was #1 in the morning.

I was surprised to see that LA NUEVA had two soft months in a row. This is the lowest level I remember them at,

KKLZ had a poor April. Is their library burned or was this just a fluke?

Although it's mostly older demos, the 12+ news/talk share is growing. Both KXNT and KDWN hit their highest levels in recent history.

The Arbitron performance with Hispanics everywhere is dismal. In Chicago, for example, they did not even reach 70% of the quota for the winter book. In Las Vegas, in 25-54 February had over 16 shares for Spanish language, while March had below 8. April was also aberrated, with the extrapolated 12+ being KRGT 4.6, KWID 3.6 and KISF being 2.8. With wobbles like that, none of the data is believable.

Makes you wonder how everything would shake out if Vegas got PPMs?

It will, as will all top 50 markets within 2 and a half years.

It will be interesting to see how many "minority-targetted" stations bail. We here in Philly had a Spanish language FM for, I'd say, 6 months. Then, out come the PPM ratings and BOOM! La Rumba gets relegated to a graveyard AM stick.

There is no way a valuable FM could have worked in Philly, PPM or diary method of surveying. The market is less than 5% Hispanic and more than half are assimilated and English dominant. There is no way for a Spanish language station to do well.

In the only accredited PPM market, Houston, the Spanish language station share are higher than those in the diary; the current total is around 21 shares, up two from the diary method shares. The two main Black stations are in the top 5 every week. So much for your contention... since minorities listen to radio more than non-Hispanic whites, they may overall gain in the PPM.

While I agree in theory, 104.5s signal does reach some highly Hispanic-populated "Burbs" that could have kept the station afloat (Allentown, Reading, Chester/Delaware counties). Not I am complaining about what's on there now (Radio 104.5, pop-leaning alternative), but geez, 6 months seems like too quick to get off the pot!

Allentown and Reading are separate markets, and even if they had gotten ratings there, it would not have mattered. Out of market audience is essentially worthless in such a case.

Somebody higher up likely realized that there was no way to even get a 2 share with that format, given the population size and the fact that it is highly assimilated. Smarter people prevailed, and they killed the format.
