February 2020 Ratings

Even with everything else going on in the world, ratings are still being released. Philly's February 2020 ratings are out with a few nuggets:

--Beasley with a GREAT month, taking #1 (WMMR) and #2 (WMGK) overall.
--Post-Eagles- WIP drops but still solid. We'll see what happens with no sports into March and April.
--WBEB in 5th, but a pretty low number for them.
--WHYY up. KYW essentially flat but solid.
--Where did WBEN surge from? Highest rating I remember seeing for them.
--WISX slips a bit again
--WRFF holding low.
--After being neck and neck for a while, WIOQ moves a full point plus ahead of WTDY.
--WEMG doubles up WHAT in the Spanish language translator battle

Doubt you'll see that anytime soon. WTDY's billing is decent (better than some other full-power FMs). The cash coming in from 96.5 and 1060 currently would be better than the cash coming in from 1060 simulcasting on 96.5. At least in my opinion.

(I still think CBS not getting 106.9 back in the day was a HUGE miss for them)

Today's Research Director demo analysis explains why TDY bills so well, ranking #3 18-34:

WMMR won 18-34 for the second straight survey with a slight increase. However, it was hearing footsteps as WUSL moved up to a close #2 with its third up book in a row. ENTERCOM Top 40/M WTDY rose three places to #3 with its best outing since MAY and was tied with WXTU, which had a solid increase. iHEARTMEDIA Top 40/M WIOQ (Q102) landed its largest share since MAY as it leapt from a tie at #9 to #5. iHEARTMEDIA Alternative WRFF (RADIO 104.5) slipped to #6 and was tied with WMGK. ]/QUOTE]

radio 104.5 actually looks decent as well

Their ratings are down from their usual peaks in the mid 4's, and billing is notoriously low. But iHeart seems to like having them around, having instead flipped 106.1 a couple of times (from Hot AC to Throwbacks, and then Throwbacks to Soft AC)

I think that's when CBS decided that KYW's future was in streaming and not FM. They had the chance (twice) to pick up 106.9 and declined. (Yes, CBS radio was in play then, but Entercom has made the same decision since.) Rather than sacrifice revenue on one of their existing FMs, KYW just promotes the stream/app.

The time window when KYW might have considered an FM simulcast has passed.
