FEBRUARY NUMBERS

Kiss moved back into the #2 spot overall with a really good month, apparently all at the expense of 100.7, which trails LTJ by more than half a point.

The Fan has slipped a little the last couple of months without football talk, but now it gets interesting as the Pirates join the lineup.

WAMO has slipped all the way down to a 1-share. While this is still remarkable for an AM and a translator, the fact remains that the audience is shrinking every month, not growing. They are not maintaining time spent listening... WJPA, for instance has double the AQH number with a smaller cume. (Translation...basically the average WJPA listener stays around twice as long as the average WAMO listener). Some of that is natural with format and demographic differences, but WAMO is, I think, still caught in the disconnect between what their listeners want to hear and what advertisers will buy.

Froggy's 103.5 signal from Steubenville has a .3. Tell me again why they don't flip this to a separate format or sell the station?

Why does star keep trying to take on Kiss?! Its a monster! Can't imagine what NY is thinking. Talk about being cornered. How long do you give it? What are other options? And would they lose anything by just putting on a "plug and play" CBS chr?

Completely agree. If anything, the only real competition for Kiss is WVAQ (which obviously the whole listening area can't pick up). 100.7 is like your mom trying to be hip and failing.

92.9 just keeps doing it right.

So much for that big ratings crash now that Krenn isn't on the DVE morning show. And this is PPM, so it isn't going to be like the diary days of seeing those numbers kick in in 6 months to a year.

Personally, one has to wonder what Martz has to do to make the "new" WAMO more sellable in Pittsburgh, since the days of "original" WAMO (at 105.9 and 106.7) are already long gone and chances are that listeners are going elsewhere for their R&B/Hip-Hop fix.

As for the Krenn effect, you'd have to look at the morning show numbers. DVE has seen some erosion in the overall numbers.

Well, for the Froggy 103.5 - I'd say it's an obsession. Froggy is a franchise that really is pointless. What they need is to keep the most succesful one and make money off the others. Flip the underperforming ones! Perhaps they could try CHR on one of them? To my knowledge there's three "Froggy" stations that can be picked up in Pittsburgh. Isn't that kinda pointless? I'm sorry, just an out-of-market inquiry. I'd flip that station in a heartbeat if I had a choice. Seems like Pittsburgh needs a Classic Rock (WDVE) and a CHR (Kiss 96.1) competitor.
This is my "Looked into this five minutes and what I initially see" input. But hey, isn't that what CC does sometimes?

Also, Pittsburgh is a Top 25 market. That makes a difference for selling. As long as it's not Radio One, it should be sold to someone (Hey, Del Marva!)

Delmarva happens to be my favorite broadcasting company. All their stations have something local, unique and interesting.

(Sorry bout my lack of knowledge on this whole thing, Pittsburgh is a place I'll be visiting pretty often now so I may be able to get a greater grasp once i've listened and found out the bottom line demographics)

Also... 103.5 should be flipped, in my honest opinion. It's basically the same as 94.9, but less strong.

Actually he has made it more sellable.... you hear spots now... but the music he's playing to make it palatable to advertisers isn't what his target audience wants. Plus I think people eventually grow frustrated with the signal limitations.

The other part of this is that the original morning guy was most of the numbers, they fell off after AM drive. The promo for the new guy is a clip of him yelling "Wake yo ass up."

AS far as Froggy is concerned, Keymarket has stopped pretending 94.9 and 103.5 are Pittsburgh stations and are selling them as suburban signals, most likely in combo with the Pickle stations. Neither covers enough of the market to be a standalone, and frankly Keymarket isn't a company that could put a good CHR on.

It's because no one else to battle them and theX also.

Delmarva...isn't that Mitch Scott's company?

I doubt he'd have any interest in it. He enjoys better weather and being able to hear what his stations are doing.

If it flips under Keymarket's ownership, I'll be very surprised. It'll happen when frogs grow wings. :D
