February PPM's

Well, wow. As things start to settle down from Christmas, things aren't exactly settled. WMGK is way up (6.5 - 8.2 - 9.1)! And yet there's still room for sister WMMR to land in second place (5.7 - 7.5 - 8.0)! BEN-FM is not too shabby (2.4 - 3.1 - 4.2). If I were in Ad Sales, I'd probably want to be doing it for Beasley right now!

KYW is still doing well in 5th place. WOGL showing some signs of life again (2.7 - 3.8 - 4.2). WPPZ does, too (2.6 - 2.9 - 3.4). WTDY and WRFF are both flat (3.1 and 2.1, respectively). Q102 is looking way up at WTDY's 3.1 from their little perch down at 1.8.

And look at poor, lowly Rumba... dropping another tenth-of-a-point to 1.2, and yet mysteriously remaining proudly on the air. (Well, it's not a mystery and, in fact, makes complete sense. Unless you're our resident white supremacist who doesn't seem to comprehend sentences that he doesn't like.)

Trend: All of iHeart's stations are trending down in the beauty pageant numbers, except WRFF--and the ratings there don't really even matter.

Demo breakdowns will as always ad some depth to it as always, but it shows not only can there be room for adult hits and classic hits coexisting nicely in a market, one company can split the difference with AC and hot AC and have them both make a nice showing. Not saying it’s like 101 was back in the day, but it’s also a different world. Respect where it is due, Audacy addressed a sore spot on 96.5 and gave it a nice little boost.

Beasley gets their props as they often do. Even when WDAS tops the heap, they have a perennial success story with MGK/MMR. Good deal there with some icing on the cake in Ben-FM and WXTU overall. And then there’s the Fanatic. 😉

Does Iheart flip WIOQ
Flip? No. They have the CHR lane all to themselves in the market. Start making some changes to address why the ratings are so low? Quite possibly. CHR is in a rough patch nationwide, but with stations like Channel 955 in Detroit, Z100 in NYC and others with strong ratings, CHR isn't dead.

Rumba is pulling in a nice revenue stream from Hispanic-only targeted ad campaigns. In that area, it does not compete with the general market stations and "gets on all the buys".

I think you know I was being sarcastic. All but one (maybe two) of the participants here know that Rumba is doing EXACTLY what it’s supposed to be doing.

Once again, it appears Audacy made the smart move with WTDY

I was listening to Q 102 last week and it's pretty tough for a male to listen. I wonder if that's hurting CHR overall.

As pointed out by several people on several different threads on these boards, Hot AC has become more male friendly than CHR.

Yes I was part of those threads. But I was talking about ways to fix Q102 without a complete flip. Z100 has figured it out.

Speaking as someone who hasn't listened to the format in a good minute and is probably not fit to compare the two stations musically, I wonder what Z100 has figured out that WIOQ hasn't.

One example: Z is playing Beyonce in heavier rotation than Q.

Last week iHeart moved the CHR format captain to Z100. So we may see some NY wisdom shared with other markets.
