Hi, please let me vent. I am so fed up with Milwaukee, WI radio! First I want to say something about the top 40 station of this market - WXSS 103.7 Kiss FM. I want to say it is the WORST top 40 station that I have ever heard - all the DJ's sound the same and a lot of the music is rap, (not to mention, the logo SUCKS too! ) - isn't it supposed to be mainstream top 40?
The best top 40 station I have ever heard was former WHTS All Hit 98-9. Now that that's gone, I would have to go along with KZII Z-102 (at 102.5) in Lubbock, TX that I once got from an aircheck - never actually listened live to the station but will sometime and from the aircheck, it was a pretty good mix of CHR/Top 40.
The second best top 40 (and the best that I have listened to) is small market KXBN B-94-9 in Cedar City, UT and B-96-7 in St. George, UT. I heard just the hits - everything from Nelly's "Get it Poppin" to hits like Kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away" and "Right Here" by Staind - when has WXSS ever played "Right Here" by Staind? B94-9 plays "Today's Hit Music." 103.7 Kiss FM obviously doesn't - all they say is that they are "The Number 1 Hit Music Station." Well, they're NOT my hit music station!
If KMGJ Magic 93.1 in Grand Junction, CO has shifted to a true top 40, then that IS THE BEST top 40 station ever and thus shifts the other stations I've mentioned down! They play some rap - but it is good rap! Not the crap that WXSS plays (like stupid "Culo" by Pitbull - stupid Spanish rap crap that no one has ever heard of!) I can't wait til I go back to Grand Junction and when they start streaming online.
This was in mid May that I was traveling through the western states of Colorado and Utah and am VERY amazed that a small market station like KXBN sounds better than a Milwaukee station like Kiss FM! Well now I'm no longer not because all these years they've been crap along with their logo. WXSS 103.7 should take lessons from those top 40 stations I've mentioned as well as other ones.
And speaking of logos, I could not get 107.7 WVCY's. I tried contacting them for their logo yesterday and today I receive a message that they cannot distribute their logo freely. Ok, so how did other people get their banners then? I tell ya, if I had control of that station, I'd immediately flip it to Adult Album Alternative and call it "107.7 The Edge." Lots of small market cities in CO have Adult Album Alternative formats and so should Milwaukee.
What I would also do is fire the program director of WXSS even though he is a nice guy and everything or at least make him play the music that KZII, KXBN, and KMGJ are playing. I bet no one else has heard those stations but me so I can only judge that. I would get rid of that stupid, garbage rap and leave it to WKKV V100.7.
And I can't tell you how much I hate The Mix 99.1 WMYX. Their 9 to 5 no repeat workday is just a rendition of the same, old variety that they play every day. What happened to that Whatever stuff they were playing? That was at least getting ratings. Now it's just crap, like 103.7. WMYX, wanna be a real modern AC station - check out WZPL Z99.5 in Indianapolis, IN or even better, KOSO B93.1 in Stockton, CA or former KCDU CD 93 (at 93.5) in Monterey, CA!
Finally, the relaunch of WLUM was the most stupid thing ever! I was expecting a change and all they do is rename it to "FM 102-1" where we already have a station called "FM 106"! Do something original like call yourselves back to New Rock. You play the same alternative music as before and now it just a stupid relaunch! I wonder if THIS IS THE REASON I wasn't getting any calls back for hiring of interns? Cuz of a STUPID, UNNECESSARY relaunch slogan change? By the way, 106.7 KROQ in L.A. is the BEST alternative rock station ever! Also, does anyone notice we don't even have a "Star" station in this market? Almost every other market does except ours!

In Grand Junction, for example, KMGJ Magic 93.1 is #1 in the ratings. I'd like to see it compete with WXSS - I bet it'd beat it and slam it down to the very bottom of the ratings!
If you don't know what I mean, then take a look at the Green Bay, WI market on Radio and Records. You'll see that 101 WIXX is #1 in the ratings. That is because they play the hits with hardly any rap. It is actually one of my favorite radio stations besides KMGJ Magic 93.1. Another thing, WPJP 100.1 from Port Washington, WI is now out of the ratings and when it was, it was one of the lowest rating stations. Whoever listens to that station must have no life because all it is is religious talk. I would change that to an adult hits station in an instant and call it 100.1 Steve FM.
The next thing I'd do is restore the Lazer slogan and format to 102.9 The Hog and make it back as you all know - "Lazer 103. Everything That Rocks." Then the dumb Classical 106.9 would be moved to 90.7 WHAD. WHAD would move to 89.7 WUWM thus eliminating that station. We DON'T NEED 2 public radio formats in the 88-91 frequency range. For the 106.9 I would change to Star 106.9 with the calls WYOR in legend of former KYOR Star 106.9 in Palm Springs, CA and that would be adult top 40/modern AC mixed in together kind of like WPNT 106.9 The Point. Or I'd restore the former Point station which I have heard back in '95. or change it to soft AC, whoever votes for it the most.
The last thing I'd do would be to get 94.5 WKTI's 18-in-a-row back. It sucks that they only play half hours of music and that most of the Milwaukee stations play commercials AT THE SAME TIME! It drives me crazy! Only the Brew plays music and sometimes Jammin' 98-3 during the commercial breaks of Milwaukee radio stations around 15 and 45 past the hour. I'd also take off Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" and Rhianna's "Unfaithful." Whoever programs WKTI doesn't program it right that is for sure. Where was Rhianna's "Pon De Replay"? Stupid if you ask me! Should take a lesson from KYKY Y-98 (at 98.1) in St. Louis, MO!

I can't wait until I work in radio to at least try and attempt to make a better radio station cuz what's here now just plain SUCKS honestly!
