Fed up with TV (almost)

I'm one of the few people that I know of that has a 42 inch HDTV and doesn't have cable or satelite. Why should I pay an arm and a leg for 100 channels of crap when I can get about 17 channels of crap for free? And on top of that, my crap is in true HDTV with an old fasioned antenna. I don't have to worry about the cable company monkeying around with the quality to save space. Most of the people I know that have HDTV have never seen HD on their own sets, they are hooked up to basic cable and are only getting analog, they think that stretching a 4;3 picture to fit on a 16x9 screen is HDTV. It ain't and I hate watching a football game with fat football players with big heads. And would someone explain to these people what an HDMI cable is and how to properly adjust their DVD player? Especially at the store. Enough of that rant. Anyway I check the TV guide, and most of the stuff on the cable channels is reruns of junk I've already seen for free over a year ago. Why the hell do we need to see all day back to back Law and Order or CSI reruns. why do i need to see seinfeld reruns 6 or 8 times in a row? And will someone tell TV Land that its "TV" Land? Not crappy "movie" land? And why can't we get any Country Music on "Country Music Television"??? Since when did Robocop 3 become a classic film on "American Movie Classics"?? Since when did Wrassling become science fiction, because I saw it on the Sci Fi channel. Star Trek yes, Wrasslin, no! And who the hell are these people that enjoy watching people play cards on TV? I'd rather watch paint dry. Arrrrrrrgh! Now where's my coat hanger and the tin foil. CSI is on. (in glorious 1080i high definition)

I myself know of at least 10 families who have not only stop watching TV but actually threw away their sets.
They want nothing to do it.
Neither do my brother and sister-in-law in Missouri. In fact, they don't own a TV set. For news, I guess he either gets that off the web or the radio (If not the printed version of the newspaper).

And, for the better part of a decade, I never had cable service (Mainly because at the time, I couldn't afford it AND the Internet and at the time, I couldn't get the Internet via cable TV for awhile due to availability issues and had to settle for DSL when it finally showed up). Example: You know how I learned of the Columbine shootings? Via a TalkCity chat room (Back when TalkCity was worth something), KXTV 10 (Sacramento, CA as it's the sister station to KUSA 9 here in Denver) and it's archived noon newscast that day on Broadcast.com (Or was it known as Yahoo! Broadcast at this point?) and archived video footage on the FOX News website.

How's that for memories of no television?

Cheers :D

Laverne & Shirley (hasn't been seen since Lifetime dropped the show a few years ago).

Are you sure they ever carried this show? Are you sure you're not confusing it with Hope & Faith or one of them other shows?
Plus Laverne & Shirley is on in syndicated reruns. Source - The List Of Television Shows Currently In Syndication (Look under the category of Off-Network Comedies).
Also, didn't WKRP run on FX for a short while?
Umm....I don't think so.

But I can name off a few shows I wish FX would carry though (And one of them is on the regular FOX network, hasn't been on FX since Season Three and was just bumped off the A&E schedule. Given all that, I'll leave it up to you to put 2 and 2 together :D).

Note that the Wikipedia list is far from comprehensive -- there are several shows airing locally (DFW area) in broadcast syndication that are missing from that list. Unfortunately, there is no "master list" to use as a basis for this kind of information, but just observation of seeing what is available in different cities.

The EGOS of some of those players are big & bloated enough as it is without seeing them in a game via an HDTV with the game itself being in non-HD format.

Sorry....Couldn't resist. The temptation just overwhelmed me. :D

Cheers :D

Apparently you failed to notice this part
This is a list of television shows currently in syndication in the United States. This is PRETTY accurate, but may not include all shows and may include a few shows not in syndication.
TRANSLATION - They readily admit they're only pretty accurate and amy not include every show in syndication (For example, they don't have UFC Wired listed even though KMGH 7 has it on every Saturday (??) Night). How much clearer do they have to be?

You're right, there is no 100% completely reliable master list, but at least it's a starting point though.

Cheers :D
