Feder: Mancow fired by WLS

Mancow: No loss. Pat Cassidy: Now he can return to WBBM-AM to co-anchor with Felicia Middlebrooks (which would be cool IMO).

Question: When Mancow was number 1 in Chicago, was he number 1 in overall ratings or just in some niche demo? And for how long?

HEY maybe this new boss at wls am. might have in the back of his mind! ! to bring back the ---------------silver dollar survey and the BIG 89! ! i know what your thinking! !what is bobby smoking. have a great DAY bobby. ::)

If WLS is looking for "a bridge between the morning show and Limbaugh", then they are just interested in the same ol' same ol'.

I find it fascinating that no one has mentioned that Drew Hayes -- who helped steer WLS in the early days of its talk format (In the words of The Who: "New boss, same as the old boss" - Literally true, in this case!) - while exiting WBBM Newsradio as programming guru.. ends up helping WBBM by freeing up Pat Cassidy to work there (unless there's a long non-compete we don't know about). Remember, the wonderful but somewhat retired John Hultman had been co-anchoring morning drive opposite Felicia until 'BBM could find a permanent replacement.

Great idea Bobby. How about this lineup:

Mornings--Clark Weber
Mid Days--Dex Card
Afternoons--Larry Lujack
Evenings--Dick Biondi
East of Midnight--Bob Hale

Shhhhh--don't wake me up, I'm enjoying this.

Well put. Compared to WLS' morning show and Rush at 11 AM, Mancow and Cassidy were all over the road. I guess that free pub they got from Mancow volunteering to be tortured/waterboarded live in studio must have worn off...

He was #1 among illiterate gas pumpers 15-24 from Midlothian from July 3-17, 1996 when Stern was on vacation.

Also #1 among survivalists who live in shacks and listen to shortwave radio the day he was waterboarded.

Mancow=Mandouche!
Let's face it, like Opie & Anthony have said many times about him, he can't cross over from being a shock jock to doing political talk.

Hey I "hate" Mancow as much as the other guy but he was successful. Not even Stern, his nemesis, ever disputed that Mancow beat him and was number one in Chicago.

Muller beat him only while on WRCX when Stern was bouncing between WCKG and WJJD. Once Stern had a foothold on CKG he beat Muller consistently.

Muller might have been #1 in some very niche demographic. Males 15-24 probably. Not even close to #1 overall.

Are you sure about that? I'm not so sure because if Stern had beaten Mancow in the ratings he would've made big deal about it on the air and as far as I know he never discussed his Chicago ratings or Mancow's ratings.

Because frankly Chicago and Muller didn't seem to matter all that much to Stern, at least by late in the 90's when he was established on CKG. After the on-air phone confrontation they had, Muller spent much more time trying to nip at Stern's heels than the other way around. Stern took the same tactic in Chicago that he did in other markets.....he ripped the local guys until he beat them, then moved on instead of obsessing over them for years like Muller and Dahl, for example did.

So here are some facts. In 1998 Mancow had a 4.8 share. In 2003 Stern had a 3.2 share. I still doubt what you're saying EnbyCee.

10. WCKG, Howard Stern 3.2 [2.9]

http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-4342393.html
AccuRatings figures released Tuesday put Stern's syndicated morning show in 29th place with a scant 0.8 percent share of all listeners. WJJD finished 29th overall with a 0.9 share.

Among Stern's main rivals, Mancow Muller of WRCX-FM (103.5) ranked fifth with a 4.8 share, and Jonathon Brandmeier of WLUP-FM (97.9) tied with Tom Joyner of WVAZ-FM (102.7) for ninth with a 3.4. Bob Collins of WGN-AM (720), as usual, led the market with an 8.6 share.

Yeah, and where the hell was Muller in 2003?

Your second article is from 1996, not 1998. But that doesn't matter I guess.

Of course Stern was doing like crap on WJJD. You could hardly hear 1160 back then in much of Chicagoland, especially early in the morning. Feder at that time worshipped Muller almost as much as he worshipped Carol Marin. And Chicagoans, myself included, didn't realize yet that Muller was an even bigger phony than those he bashed.

Which one had TV shows on E! and CBS, and which one couldn't even last on WCIU?

Those were the best sources I could find but I came across this site and here they list the number one shows in each demo. You will find some instances were Howard Stern beat Mancow in the overall ratings but most of the time he didn't. Looks like you were wrong?

"Here, according to the latest Arbitron quarterly survey (for the period from Sept. 18 to Dec. 10, 2003) are Chicago's top-rated radio hosts in each time period, followed by the specific age and gender categories in which their programs are No. 1:
