Feeling nostalgic about YSP

With its demise just weeks away, I thought maybe it would be a good time to list your favorite all-time YSP jocks/personalities

1. Howard Stern- with Howard devoting time to YSP on his Sirius show the other day, this station was much more than his first syndicated market, it was 2nd home. The war against Debella (and morning zoo shows in general) was radio at its finest.

2. Anita- Ask Anita was part of my teenage years, I loved her voice and no doubt developed my first radio crush with her

3. Rick Allen- in his prime the guy spun some pretty cool wacked-out music, late at night where it should be.

Never was a big fan of WYSP. I always felt they were a bit inferior to WMMR. That being said, I do remember Randy Kotz doing evenings cira 1980 and Michael Picozzi(formerly of WMMR) doing mornings 1981-84 or so. In fact, many WMMR djs went to WYSP, such as Ed Sciaky, Steve Sutton, Anita, and Michael Tearson.
With regards to Tearson, he wasn't at 'YSP very long, and his tenure there reminded me of Pete Rose playing for the Montreal Expos-it just didn't seem right. Just as Rose was remembered for his days with the Reds and Phillies, Tearson will always be associated with WMMR.

Randy Kotz is still on. I heard him on overnight a couple days ago.

I always wondered If Anita and Stevsky (Steve Sutton I think) were the two voice over on the original Country Crock commercials from way back. It was just two hands with a voice for each. I swore they voices sounded exactly like Anita and Stevesky.

Ross Andrews - real name Ross Katz, now a successful movie producer.

Having worked 3rd shift(11PM - 7AM) in a factory for 13 yearsin Berks County, I always caught the last few hours of Matt and Huggy and always looked forward to their show and couldn't wait to hear what they had to say when it was time for them to talk. Rick Allen was great to listen too as well and then always caught the first hour of Howard Stern before it was time to leave work. It seems like it wa so long ago - that's when I really enjoyed listening to WYSP rather than any Berks County station.

Stern show from 86' - 91' the 'best' years (just in my opinion).
Ed Sciaky and the Sunday Night Alternative. I know it was Ed's show and traveled with him, but I caught it on WYSP.
And going waaaaaay back, Dr. Demento, I think syndicated on Sunday nights on 'YSP.

Fox & Leonard Morning Show
Denny "Doc Rock" Somach
Bill Fantini
Anita Gevinson
Sean McKay & Jerry Abear

and who could forget QUAD ROCK !

Funny you should mention the Metal Shop:

Mark "King of Dirt" DiDia and "Mean Ed" Green will do a farewell episode of The Metal Shop on Sat. 8/27/11 from 8pm-Midnight.

YSP is also asking for help with old airchecks, memorabilia and the like as they'll be doing a tribute to the station over its less-than-two weeks on-air. It also happens to be the station's 40th anniversary. Former staffers are being sought for farewell shows/segments.

Info can be sent to: WYSP PD Jeff Sottolano at [email protected]

Besides, metal shop has anyone else signed on to go on YSP? Who would you like to see do it?

I would love to hear one last addition of Ask Anita! There were a lot of cool jocks at YSP over the years...I'm sure it'll be half-assed.

Howard Stern
Don Geronimo
Mike O'Meara
Opie & Anthony
Kidd Chris
The Greaseman
Scott Ferrall
Paul Barsky
David Lee Roth

Not sure that's the part of the station history they're going for, but that's what I'd like to hear. :)

I would think that's EXACTLY the era they'd be looking for. They're in the "Pander To The Bottomfeeder Era" right now. Those guys all had a role to play in that. And that's why nobody is listening.
