Felger's gone, but 890 is still breathing

The replacement shows are better than they could have been. I'm not sure how they signed up Bob Halleron for the new 12-2 show with Mike Salk. Halleron is an established guy on channel 5 and filled in 850. I can't believe they have the revenue to pay him a whole lot. The show is ok, reminds of a Pawtucket version of Dale and Holly. Then for some reason play a portion of a show from ESPN. Sometimes it has Mike Tarico, sometimes Scott Van Pelt, and sometimes Michelle Tafoya. Then at 4 it's Lew and Mike. I have no idea where these guys came from, but they are pretty funny. Who are they? Mike Felger has become a star. They even said so in Boston Magazine this month. But 890, with its under powered signal, seems to be hanging on. I hope they make it.

There's a tradeoff in sports radio. The local hosts give you local talk and topics, but they are beyond full-of-themselves and most (all?) of them are despised. ESPN's radio programming, while not focusing on local content, have better, smarter, and more appealing hosts. I Podcast Mike & Mike and listen to it on my commute daily. I've given up on Boston sports radio because the signals are weak (especially after the leaves fall from the trees) and the hosts are, too.

I work nights and have to depend on ESPN radio to hear the world series (it is on TV in the break room,
though). I had to use an FM re-transmitter and a radio near the edge of our building and I usually
wound up having to hear either ESPN 1050 out of NY, or the Phillies' flagship on 1210. 890, or even
1400 out of Law./Low.? Forget it

890 and 1510 Sucks ! 890 need to go back to Spanish music and 1510 just need to go away . Thank God The Celtics are not on 1510 anymore .

Rapking sucks....needs to go back to third grade!

:D

I wish they both had stronger signals--1510's signal and programming does suck, esp. overnight (religious nonsense) but the morning show is a good alternative to 850 and Mike and Mike are, as well.

I saw a post on NY radio bboard that E* 1050 won't be airing Game 5 tonight. They'll have Knicks bball. Baseball will shift to Apple 970.

I guess it was on AllAccess first, but here's the post :

890's emergence is interesting. If you go back to 1995, right around the time EEI made its ascent, 890's current ratings pattern is very similar. Conversely, with the exception of the mid-day show, you can see EEI fading a bit.

same thing has happened before/ESPN 1050 having to do another sport instead of WS. Didn't
shift it to 1560--Radio Disney was on...maybe not co-owned any more); 1130 had more basketball, etc.

Incidentally I heard the game mostly via WPHT 1210 but WLLH 1400 was also coming in in N. Reading
(prob could come in quite well if I were outside, but my workplace has lots of machinery) and about 9 pm or so (maybe 10?)
I heard the following: after Jon Miller said we now break for station ID--
"This is ESPN 890-- carrying every pitch of the World Series...ESPN 890" (// on 1400 of course)

Problem of course: not a legal ID! Maybe they put the legal ID in a few moments later but it should have
said "WAMG Dedham, WLLH Lowell and Lawrence"

1050 WEPN and 1560 WQEW are still held by Disney, it was just 95.5 WPLJ and 770 WABC that are part of Citadel. I'm pretty sure they have run sports events on 1560, seems odd that they didn't shift it there.

Did you try "ESPN 1000" WMVP from Chicago? I've received their signal surprisingly well in the past in MetroWest.
