Fellowship of the Miserable

Put those pom poms away fellow Patriot fans (and I say Go Steelers). I'm sure the disappointed
fans of Patriot Nation will be burning up the phone lines at WEEI and WBZ-FM this week; "just turn on sports talk radio, the fellowship of the miserable" as Rick Pitino put it, I believe. When the AFC
Champ. game starts next Sunday, Tom Brady isn't coming through that door, fans.

And yes, in terms of radio this has to hurt everyone incl. their flagship, and Kraft and company
are denied the chance of hosting an AFC Championship and more.

Still, I do remember when the Pats won some Super Bowls. I think the first one was against the
Rams, and the Rams' flagship station had announcements about the Rams' victory parade on
their site. After the Pats won, of course, the announcements quickly went away...over-confidence

Had bits of D&C and 98.5 on for a while this morning. It is funny/ironic when they are defending the team and not instigating the bashing of the home team.

Ah, the delights of NOT being a sports fan! Now I can watch "Jeopardy" on WBZ-DT, channel 30, on Friday nights at 7:30; it will no longer be necessary to record the overnight run and watch it during the weekend.

Just remember THEY lost. Sports fans, myself included, are truly a part of the team when victorious but not when in defeat. Did WE win? No, THEY lost! And to turn around a joke that had been used in terms of the other team, what do you call 30 millionaires sitting around watching the Super Bowl? The Patriots! ;D

Life goes on.

I've noticed that on weekends the differences aren't even that subtle. I listen to 98.5 on Saturdays and I hear Joey from the North End, Steve from Fall River, and several of the other usual suspects.

Now that they play 80's music on my favorite oldies stations, that's ruined too. I guess I don't read enough anyway.

Supposedly 98.5 is going after a younger demo, the ones especially who can't picture themselves listening to AM radio. (Maybe the ones whose mp3 players also include radio, but _FM only_...)

Or maybe I'm referring to the age of the various hosts. Hey Ordwayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Happy 60th!

I LOVE it.

Try being a Pats/Red Sox fan in Central New Jersey - I now have to deal with the insufferable New Yawk fans this week, at least until the Steelers put a Pennsyltuclky hurtin on 'em.

Anyone need a Oldies/Classic Hits PD/jock? I REALLY would like to get away from the New Yorkers.... :)

and then you can tell them that it's now 42 years since the Jets won the Super Bowl.

Here's the irony...The Patriots have become the Yankees.

The majority of people West of the 413, HATE the Pats & Boston sports fans. Their defeat was a boon to sports talk all over the country. It's now been 6 years since the Patriots have won anything significant. Their last 3 playoffs were 18-1, which elicited massive cheers, and two beatings in their own house.

The villain makes the story interesting, and everyone loves to see a bully get knocked off their bike. The Patriots are both. And even if you live in a place that doesn't really have anything going on sports-wise, the "I hate Brady" roars were huge Monday on sports radio.

You can win by losing!

Along with the Lakers, Heat, Ohio State, USC, and Duke. You don't get to be a team everybody loves to hate outside your own market unless you have a reputation of being both successful and arrogant at the same time, combined with an overabundance of coverage on ESPN.

The Pats aren't quite down there with the Yankees since Bob Kraft isn't the SOB that George Steinbrenner was. But Bill Bellichik is certainly the "equal" of Billy Martin.

Jets are the team with a drought, now, as Sox were for many years. Having last won it all in a year when the Beatles were thinking of breaking up. That being said, Go Steelers.

Hey Howie Carr used my joke about 30 yr olds in mom's basement (WBZ-FM) and 50 yr olds in mom's
basement (WEEI). See his column in Herald today!
