FEMA PSA with EAS tones

The radio version is essentially the same, featuring something that sounds like the ATTN tone, perhaps pitched up a bit.

The FCC issued a waiver for these spots because they were produced for FEMA. Their statement says they use different EAS codes so it should not trigger a properly functioning EAS unit.

"Do as I say, not as I do"...seems to apply to the Government where this situation's concerned. And, no it won't trigger anything, but it still goes against everything we, the broadcaster would get slapped-for if WE produced and originated it.

Not a big deal to us, we only air LOCAL psa's, no agency ones anyway. Helping the community starts at home, and we already work with (local) CERT, the Medical Reserve Corps, Red Cross, (local) Cancer society (local) and other non profit help organizations, thus no need of feeding a PSA agency's reps and ego. During our floods in April, we worked with MRC VERY closely. Details at www.montcalmioniamrc.org

f I hear one of these somewhere, I promise to get real upset when I find out there's no real emergency.

NOAA weather radios were so alarm-happy that my Dad finally turned his off completely rather than have his sleeep interrupted so much.

It's almost like the back-up warnings on trucks, construction equipment, etc, that are so loud and
in some areas omnipresent.....after a while you do stop paying attention rather than being alerted.

Bring back the two tone EBS alarm!

Depending on your receiver manufacturer, you can "turn off" certain functions. I have all weather watches off. Severe thunderstorm too. The only time my weather radio goes off is for "warnings" and the Wednesday test.

Too bad that the PSA did not mention the broadcast version of the Emergency Alert System as one of those things we already rely on, and then tell us that the mobile alerts are just a new addition to the list.
But, I don't think they really care about radio and TV any more.

Likewise, I feel the broadcasters should conveniently forget to run their "ad" too. Around here, TV stations have apps that are very, very good. Getting with one of the local TV broadcasters and promoting their app would be a very good substitution. :)
