Female Heartland Rock artists?

This genre of rock is nowhere near as big on UK radio as in the USA, but Bruce Springsteen and the late great Tom Petty have had success and the likes of Bob Segar and John Mellancamp have had the odd hit. These days only Bruce Springsteen really appears on mainstream UK radio.

But what about the ladies? Wikipedia only lists Melissa Etheridge, who I've just about heard of but couldn't name a single song of hers without googling.

Any other female artists played on Heartland Rock radio stations over there?
 
Not really. Was never seen as a sub-genre over here. These artists have found homes on Classic Rock and AAA stations.

There were a few female mainstream rock artists in the 70's and 80's, like Heart and Melissa Etheridge.

In the 90's we had Alanis Morrissette and the artist who gave us the song "Bitch" (can't recall her name), and a handful of others, but they were more alternative rock.

Like the other poster mentions, the rock-oriented format that had the most female artists was probably AAA, followed by alternative.
 
Meridith Brooks was the artist who had a US number 2 (and British number 6) with 'Bitch'.


Pretty much a one hit wonder though.
 
How about Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee? Or maybe Kimbra who had that 2011 duet with Gotye, "Somebody That I Used To Know." Kimbra also had a song called "Plain Gold Ring."

And Paramore. I think they were / are fairly popular. Female singer. I think I've heard them at least once on rock radio, but I could be confusing them with another modern / mainstream rock group that has a female singer which name I can't remember.
 
Amy Lee is more alt/rock & Paramore (Hailey Williams) is more alt/pop.

Kimbra is still a relative unknown here. Remember, two versions of Gotye's song got spins...only one of them featured Kimbra.
