Fictional Atlanta Talk Radio - WHPJ

Did anyone else catch the reference to Atlanta's WHPJ, "the best radio talk show station in the south" in Sunday night's "Army Wives" on the Lifetime cable network? In the ep, one of the Cute Army Wives who is a host of a program about the concerns of (what else?) Army wives, on the station operated by the Army on-base (AM? FM? Carrier current? Who writes this stuff?), has a discussion with a "Big Muckety-Muck" who wants her to "come up to Atlanta" and work for him, because his weekend host has "jumped to satellite" and he likes Cute Army Wife's style.

When Cute Army Wife's show is shut down by an Ambitious Officer for discussing topics he doesn't think are appropriate, she almost goes to work for Big Muckety-Muck, but then backs off when he tells her all he wants her to talk about is entertainment gossip, not issues. "People want to be entertained, not engaged," he says. Eventually, Ambitious Officer is reprimanded by Base Commander and Cute Army Wife gets her show back.

I guess the base is supposed to be a fictional version of Fort Benning. Maybe they have Army consultants on the military aspects of the show, but they could sure use one about radio stations.

Comments?

Atlanta already has a fictional talk radio station. It's called WGST.

The muckety muck was played by Stephen J. Cannell (sometimes actor) who created and produced shows like "Greatest American Hero", "The A-Team", "Hardcastle and McCormick", and "21 Jump Street". I thought he did good playing a radio GM. GM's can offer the world to you and yet change the rules once you are on the inside.

I thought I recognized him from somewhere.

Cute. For all but Limbaugh hours, you're right. GST would probably do better if if ran Limbaugh repeats 21 hours weekdays.

Back in the 70's there was a bit of concern about an FCC rule about overstating your coverage area. We couldn't say we were "North Georgia's best" if our coverage area wasn't the whole of North Georgia. The line about "the best radio talk show station in the south" reminded me of that issue.
