FICTITIOUS SIDEKICKS

The post on "Disc Jockies You Enjoyed" brought to mind those jocks who had imaginary sidekicks that shared the limelight. I mentioned Bob Todd from Quixie earlier - he had, of all things, a frog as a sidekick - it's name
was GORF. When Gorf would "ribbit" it was very ballsy and with lots of reverb. Dick Hemby, afternoon guy at
WSB-AM, used to do a mumbling little voice and would actually talk back to himself - Rusty Knob (kinda silly)
and didn't Skinny Bobby used to do a little old lady routine?

The best by far I ever heard was growing up in CT. KC101 mornings had Dr. Chris and Hozay(Jose). Years and years went by and most people didn't know Hozay was Dr. Chris. How he did a whole show like that still blows my mind. As the name suggest he wasn't just a character but co-host. The running gag was he was the mayor of fogarea which for many it took awhile to figure out it was a specific are of the Highway that huse signs that simply said Fog Area. Yeah it probably sounds lame but it was big then.

The greatest sports guy ever - Jim Shorts from the Kevin Matthews show in Chicago. What are ya, goofy?

Any old -timers from Columbus remember "Phillip Space" (fill up space)? He was Bill Bowick's sidekick on WRBL-1420 in Columbus in the 60's. Supposed to be a little Martian guy in the studio commenting on Earthlings. :)

Sorry to stray from the local angle, but I enjoyed Phil Hendrie's 'sidekick', Bud Dickman.
Bud Dickman was, indeed, one of the greatest fictitious sidekicks in history. Another favorite of mine was one I heard in Illinois a couple years back....Alan Wrench.

You guys didn't mention my friend and yours...If you work in corporate radio...

SILENT MIKE

He does overnights and weekends all over the country!!

(Big) Jack Armstrong is/was a fabulous jock. But when he introduced the Gorilla (at the CBS Hot Hits in LA???) I lost respect for him. The "voice" was bogus and was not a clever "character" but just an obvious so-called alter ego. Most of the other pseudo sidekicks are set up to be perceived as another person--not a cartoon animal.
