Fierce tropo this morning

As I was driving to work I was getting radio stations from all over the place.
My car radio stopped in nearly every channel.

Of particular interest were KUT on 90.5 and Bob-Fm on 103.5, both from Austin which were coming in like locals!
______________
I listen to what I like.
Ratings be Damned.

on my antenna this morrning about 30 miles south of Austin, its pointed to San antonio, I was picking up KILT over Y100, KLOL over KONO, 92.1 KNBT was fighting over with KROI, 93.3 I was picking up 3 diffrent ones from KDHT, KITE to KQBU, even this afternoon about 12 or so while I was working on the computer my radiocard was picking up KTJM over KBBT in San antonio.

I was receiving "La Raza" on 99.5 in Lafayette, LA. Haven't been able to track down where this station was coming from. I know it's far away as there are 100,000 watt 99.5 stations in both New Orleans and Lake Charles, so it must be outside their protected area, but both were probably off the air. Any ideas?

Samething happened to me but with KRBE. I was listenint to it over at 94.1. Can anybody explain this or is my radio broken?

If you were close to the Transmitter, or in Houston, if it didnt have a good filter then you could of got a "overload" or multipath. My radio does that sometimes when I'm driving in Austin, I'll hear khfi on 104.1 when i am near the transmitter.

The thing is that I was in Huntsville at the time. That's more than 50 miles away from the transmitter. I guess it was just my radio. It is old anyways.

BOB FM

I am in Round Rock and was experiencing a very weak signal from Bob FM on my drive into Austin early this morning, something that is normally quite strong in my area. Im guessing a lot of the tropo conditions must have been pointing easterly.

I was getting some interference in Houston on KFNC this morning as I was having to drive to San Antonio today for my other job (I know, great day to be driving back from there). On the way back when I tuned KFNC to see if I could get it in at 2pm, I was actually picking it up decent in Flatonia. Usually it'll peter out around Sealy. Now the signal would occasionally be overpowered by country music (someone said that's from Corpus Christi I think), but I was able to keep up with the conversations with only the occasional dropout for more than 5 seconds.

Austin blazed into Henderson yesterday morning. Heard "Channel 102-3" while the local 102-3 was off the air between 7-8:30 AM

Also heard 95.7 "The Wave" between 10-11 AM, as well.

Way tropo was running...possibly 99.5 in Brownsville Only thing I could find however lists the slogan as something else... as any other 99.5 to the west of you was country or rock....

But did catch a weird opening Monday afternoon... Caught no other Texas stations but KLDE 107.5 crystal clear over a dead spot that usually holds either 107.5 KVEE in Lake Arthur or KCIL 107.5 Houma in Louisiana....

RFLA

Beaumont, Lake Charles & Lafayette stations heard

Last night (Tuesday)I heard 95.1 and 104.5 out of Beaumont clearly on my portable GE Radio in my house here in The Heights.
Also I heard 96.1 and 99.5 very clear out of Lake Charles.

Television as well - On my portable color Tv in my bedroom with rabbit ears, I picked up Channels 6 and 12 out of Beaumont. Channel 4 is still off the air due to the storm.
Channel 7 out of Lake Charles was the clearest. I was amazed.
Channel 10 out of Lafayette was coming in but not very clear.

Gator 99.5 out of Lake Charles can be heard in Houston on a car radio but its very spotty. Their transmitter is actually west of Lake Charles, just north of Vinton where the FOX 29 transmitter is.

How about KQXY 94.1? How do they do down there? I like that station for a top 40 there pretty good, mainly because over the weekends they do a little dance mixshow on Saturday afternoons :).

That's right. KKPS out of Brownsville has a new slogan that goes "Que Pasa 99.5....La Estacion de LA RAZA". I totally forgot about that.
