Filing Windows

I'm doing some research. I'm curious as to information about "filing windows." How exactly does it work when a station wants to apply for an FCC license? From what I've been told, you can only apply during a filing window, something that has not happened in awhile, but could be happening again in the near future. Is this all true? Any other information on "filing windows" appreciated.

It actually depends which particular kind of license you want to apply for. For example, a window for Major AM Changes opened in January of 2004. Most of those applications are still pending.

The FCC is funny when it comes to windows...they don't do them very often, and usually change the dates at least once. Also, the windows generally aren't well-publicized. There are various windows for AM Major Change, Translators, etc.

Are you looking to file any specific sort of application? If I know what you are looking to do, I can probably help you find out when the next window is.
