Filling Big Ron's Shoes

That station's current success was built on the shoulders of Jim Nettleton with the "Golden 98" of the early '70's. Problem is, the current powers will try to force a square peg in a round hole. Jim's the teacher, not the student. Look what the dopey decision makers at WPEN did when Jim was there. They need to remember, it was Jim at WFIL who made that music popular in the first place, and he knows of what he speaks.

Another possibility is Bill Gardner.

I don't expect a big name jock to take the spot. My money is on Cadillac Jack, simply because he's already there and has filled in Big Ron's slot more than anyone.

Bill Gardner would be awesome, though. Right in competition with brother Andre.

Andre, if you're out there, talk your brother into applying!

I'm a fan of Jim Nettleton, but I really think WOGL should go with someone new. I am not sure Jim has the energy they want in the afternoon.

Mike St. John is probably out of the question due to his inability to get along with so many people at the station.

C'mon what's wrong with you guys.....It should be Mike Phillips (formerly of WNJC Brokered radio hands down. Matter of fact 'OGL would make a profit on him as he pays his way for 3 hours. The other guys are too expensive and experienced. Plus he doesn't require an expensive wardrobe as he'll just show up in a Phillies t-shirt everyday on his shift. My bet ....Mike Phillips all the way man.

What about Andre himself? I assume he's under contract with Greater Media, but it would be a thrill to hear him talk up some old Top 40 hits, like he did on WIFI 92 back in the day! :)

Thank you, Jeff Demko, for the name check... BUT...

Having been a good friend and bigtime professional admirer (some would say, "imitator") of the dear departed Big Ron for many years, I feel his successor (it's hard to say "replacement") should be someone who can carry on the legacy of a SUPERIOR AIR TALENT, in PM drive at WOGL. Someone SPECIAL.

Someone BIG ;)

BIG JAY SORENSEN knows Philly and knows New Jersey. He is the original "Record Pig", for God's sake! (WNNNNNNNNBC! ;D)

Big Jay is one of the best air talents in the history of modern Radio. His "sound" is the quintessential embodiment of Classic Hits. On a Heritage station in Philly like WOGL, anyone who spends a few years there is always beloved by the people in the market.

Big Jay would be a legend, at 'OGL.

I know that PD Anne Gress has always liked his work, and they appeared to be pretty sympatico a couple of weeks ago, at Big Ron's memorial service, which I also attended. IMHO, she really oughta take him into AAA-list consideration for the afternoon drive show! Just my $.02!

Thanks!

In no particular order...

1) Big Jay Sorensen
2) Big Joe Henry
3) Diamond Jim Nettleton
4) Terry "Motormouth" Young
5) Dan Ingram
6) "Dangerous" Dan Donovan
7) "Banana Joe" Montione
8) Mike Bowe
9) McClintock/Kim Martin
10) M...mmmmm....mmmmmmmmmmmAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! MAYYYYYYYYYY!!! IT'S ALL ABOUT MAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! (plus, I work cheap!) (Of course, I'm J/K, ya geese!)

Ron Joseph. OK? OK!

Hasn't he paid his way, I mean, "dues" -- long enough?

Your motorcycle's all tuned up and ready, Mr. Walsh! Happy motoring! :p

That guy is not even worthy of standing in the same room with the others you mentioned. To me, Bowe is the "Don K. Reed" of Philadelphia. He is boring, boring, and more boring. And yet, somehow he has his legions of fans.

Whatever turns you on.

Terry Young is doing good and making big bucks at XM radio....he would never go....Manning or Hatch might be a good choice, after all they started it all with Diamond Jim at WCAU-FM Stereo Solid Gold, oh man great times...how about the Vietnam Vets if they are still around (sarcasm)...

Without getting into dissing the personalties of some of the people mentioned above (disclaimer: I have no idea who many of them even are), one post makes my earlier point:

People of, shall we say, average competence and charm can become beloved Radio figures in Philly, by virtue of the fact that they're still there. Just having held the chair for awhile seems to entitle you to your own fan club. Philly's one of the greatest "Radio towns" ever; always has been.

This is exatly why I'm personally stumping for Big Jay Sorensen on WOGL in the afternoons. Assuming that anyone can garner *a* following in that kind of showcase, Big Jay would be a Philadelphia brand, in record time. Or Record Pig time... ::)
