Filling Sacramento's Alternative void

The guys that ran KWOD 106.5 (Before the Entercom takeover disaster) have filled the New Rock void in Sacramento with eX1065.com! Hell, we're even celebrating our birth by presenting X (all original members!) live this month at Harlows. Giving local talent a place to have their music heard and to promote their shows.

Local music and new rock... only place to get it in Sacramento is...

www.eX1065.com

Live professional type jocks daily on eX1065.com!

Andy Sims noon-4
Mike D 4-8

8 hours of live talent a day! I think that might put us in the top 5 in the market for live staff!

Sacramento's only New Rock and home to local music

All you're missing is a frequency.

Seriously, every decent-size market in the US (except Sacramento) must have an alternative station of some sort. It's sad that KWOD, once one of the most successful Alt formats in the country, is now reduced to an internet stream. And no one is stepping up to the plate!

Atlanta's legendary 99X is now reduced to an HD-2 Channel that's now being rebroadcast on an FM Class D Translator. At least it's something.

I'd like to see some investors buy that nice soon to be redundant 99.5 from EMF (they already have 89.7 for K-Love ( doesn't seemed to be PPM encoded like KARA 99.1 wich is getting decent listening for market's THIRD Contemporary Christian Station Air1.)

EMF could use the money to build another station or stations in other markets and the price should be reasonable considering the drop in value of sticks. Look at 104.9 in San Jose. (5 Mil).

Anyway, the technical issues for 99.5 should be worked out soon and I'd hate to see it wasted on a forth CCM in the market. Not that I'd hear it from LA anyway. ::)

Maybe Ed Stolz has these guys, (warming up in the bullpen?) so when he buys one of these stations for sale in the market he'll have the product ready to go? Maybe? Tongue firmly in cheek! But then again you never know! lol lol...

NOW ALTERNATIVE IS BACK IN SACRAPMENTO AT 94.7 FM. ARE YOU GUYS HAPPY ARE STILL GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DISMISSED OF 106.5 FM!!!!

Remember this?

That is why it is so difficult to tell you that, after 18 years, KWOD is coming to an end. The last few years have been very challenging for KWOD; as it has been for the world of Alternative music, and the radio stations that play it, in general. The severe downturn in the economy over the last year has affected many people and companies. I’m not telling you something that you don’t already know. But, perhaps you didn’t know that, while we are a radio station, we face the same circumstances as so many other organizations today… the challenge of running a business profitably. We have taken many steps over the last few years to improve things, but in the end they have not been enough. We’re proud of what KWOD has stood for over the years. And, we’ve had fun being part of it.

Some of you may want to blame this decision on some faceless corporation. While KWOD does have a parent company, it’s not how it came down. This was a local decision that was both difficult and personal. We had to finally admit that our best efforts, over a number of years, were not going to produce the results we needed.

This was put together by the very same people that signed on this new "alternative" station. There must have been a seismic and violent economic shift in radio in the last year... funny, I missed it.

I was thinking that same thing, what a bunch of BS. Sounds like a bunch of boneheads running Entercom/Sacramento. They should of just left KWOD 106.5 the way it was and put the format they have on 106.5 now on 94.7.

I heard a liner on 94.7 this morning: "no annoying, self-absorbed DJ's". Hmmm! I am starting to see a theme here. All DJ's are annoying? I really don't want to listen to another JACK. If I go to your DJ-less station and there isn't a song playing I like, I just move on... :p

Golly, I wonder why radio companies would try to sour the public on "DJ's"?? Couldn't have anything to do with the ability to knock out hundreds of salaries company wide.

Can you imagine Taco Bell telling people in all their commercials how annoying and unclean the counter help is at all their restaurants? All in an effort to replace the order takers with computer terminals where you just punch in your order.

It's essentially the same approach Entercom used with KWOD 2.0.

Apparently, those ratings shot so high, we can't even read them with conventional equipment anymore. Every time Pat Paxton ODs on Viagra, someone in Sacramento gets a pink slip.

KWOD 3.0 is here, and it's every bit as good as you'd expect.

KWOD 3.0? ;D

It is a strange mix of music from one song to the next. ::)

I HATE it when I see managers trashing air talent....hmmm......

What I'd like to see is an alternative station that runs liners saying something to the effect of:

"No annoying, self absorbed, self annointed management suits telling you what you get to hear. Disc jockeys, not Desk Jagoffs."

Or maybe "No 20 year old alternative songs ordered by the 50 year old desk jockeys"

"The station that puts the suits in their rightful place, behind a desk and on the phone."

I think KBZT in San Diego ran with the anti establishment thing against 91X when they signed on, but to get the attention of the alterna-youngin's, maybe something more in your face would work...

WITH SOME QUALITY NEW ALTERNATIVE ROCK DELIVERED BY SOME REAL ON AIR PERSONALITIES!!

YES! It is the little things that listener's love!

Your post reminds me of a couple radio stories. I apologized on-the-air for an occasional stutter. A listener calls, "That is what we love about you. You are a real person!"

A manager tells me not to use the word "nummy" describing the McGriddle I gave away every morning with trivia. The very next morning a listener calls and says they want to win one of those "nummy sandwiches!" :)

You won't get ANY of that with a DJ-less station.
