FILM ON "ANTENNA" TO GIVE SUBSCRIBERS LOCAL TV CHANNELS

Wow, let me get this straight. They have a device that you can hook up so you can get television for FREE? I had no idea. So that's what those rabbit ears and funny looking things on peoples roofs are for. Free television. who you have thunk it?

It's Sezmi all over again.
Not less than a year removed a new idiot takes the helm to run with a ridiculously flawed business model.

The very people FilmOn wants to reach are the same "fools" that know broadcast OTA is all ready free and has been.
And those "idiots" are likely using Netflix streaming right now anyways.

It's cute how business thinks no one is tech savvy when it's usually business keeping up with the technology.

The American public is pretty stupid when it comes to technology.

Now, the real question is, How the heck can they advertise it? Won't the Cable and satellite companies refuse to run their ads, as a "competing service", like they did with the Mohu Leaf antenna?

Having once worked a job selling consumer electronics, I could not agree more!

Here's what I get

FilmOn AIR, an ATSC digital antenna that plugs into either computers or mobile devices and displays legal "over-the-air" digital signals from the major networks and any other local broadcasters. The device is free with every annual US-based subscription to FilmOn's service.

So basically it's an ATSC tuner. My home laptop tuner has an ATSC tuner built in. But not all computers do. My netbook does but my laptop, I have a usb tuner. Which OK but has driver issues. (ARTEC was fine under Vista but their drivers for Win7 suck)

The online service, which is also available through a free app for iOS and Android devices, brings "HD quality" as well as standard TV broadcasts from around the world to computers via web browser and mobile devices via apps using Wi-Fi with an emphasis on sports and news broadcasts from various content providers. The company says it has licensed over 120 HD television channels but has not yet successfully gotten permission to show major-network programming.

So this would be the subscription part?

The antenna is available separately for $96 and can be used with the free apps to watch and even record local programming and available free online programming without a subscription, though the channel selection is very limited.

But if you have Windows you can use Media Center with any ATSC tuner and record OTA programing.

It doesn't seem like such a big deal.

When I was a yute, an uncle of mine who lived in a city in a valley (Lawrence, Mass) had an antenna on the roof (this was before or the early days of cable) pointed pretty much away from Boston as I could tell because I made sure OUR antenna was pointed to the antenna farm west of Boston. He got smeared colors and ghosts and was satisfied, as were members of his family I presume. That's all that counts I guess.
