FILM ON & IVI LEGAL ISSUES MOUNT

I'm no legal expert but it seems IVI lost a legal battle in Seattle on Friday. Now the case moves to
the New York courts. I think FILM ON has been forced to stop retransmitting US networks. Those who have FILM ON, is that the case?

I read some guy in the industry's blog post and he thinks IVI will be shut down within a week. I am not so pessimistic. Both services argue that they are only doing the same thing that cable does (retransmitting signals) and which cable fought for when it was brand new. FILM ON is free and also has an England service which continues to opperate as usual. IVI claims it is sending money to the copyright service and all the stations need do is file and ask for their money.

I feel for both as I think they are only trying to bring us the future and because they are not a Comcast or AT&T they must somehow be stopped. IVI only charges $4.99 a month for the streaming service, while Comcast and AT&T would likely charge $50 or more and are probably RED IN THE FACE that they did not invent it.

Personally, it's not just copyright, but the transmission of out-of-town channels to a nationwide audience, which of course is restricted on satellite. No doubt the competition is using the existing laws to shut down Film On and IVI.
