Filmation's Lou Scheimer dies

On the other hand, Filmation's "Star Trek Animated" supposedly had the most elaborate animation of any Saturday-morning TV cartoon series of the 1970's and reportedly used 40% more "cels" per half-hour than the average Saturday morning TV cartoon show.

Perhaps the company's most successful show was "Fat Albert", which ran for about a decade.

Yessiree, I imbibed Filmation's Saturday morning offerings back in the late 70s as much as the Hanna-Barbera cornucopia. Scheimer and Prescott were about the only studio that kept H-B from a monopoly on the kiddie cartoon market (and thus a potential FCC crackdown, which had already happened to local afternoon kiddie hosts). We can basically credit Filmation for saving the grand Saturday morning cartoon tradition for a few more years than otherwise would have been the case. RIP, Mr. Scheimer.
