Filters: I'm embarrassed to ask!

I spent years toiling with Cool Edit96 and then Cool Edit2000. Edit view was it, and filter choices were FFT and Quick Filters.

So. Here I am toiling away in Audition 2.0 and not terribly impressed with what I can do with FFT to "clean up this scraggly voice"! It has dawned on me that maybe I should consider using Parametric Filters instead. Or now that I have Multi-track available, maybe there is a filter process over there and I should be doing my recording there, filtering on the fly.

What tools do you use?
 
You're on the right track.
Yes. Parametric EQ on Adobe Audition is one of the better filters.
