Final Days for Movin 93.9?

Try 939exitos.com.
LOL. Now that's some damn good guerilla marketing on behalf of KLVE!

939exitos registered via godaddy to David Gleason! Should have known!

By the way, I think you are right about Joya. I think 93.9 is taking the best from 97.7 and Joya for this format. Although Joya has been playing more soft pop crossover as of late. And man, you have ties all over the place. KLVE- Univision, Emmis- I think they have interests in Radio 10 and Mega, and your old stomping grounds at GRC! Whew!

Also I found out this:

"Grupo Radio Centro LA, LLC
2021 West Olive Ave.
Burbank
Los Angeles, CA 91506
US

Domain Name: EXITOS939.COM"

They are going for variety... but they have added unfamiliarity.

Triple A in Spanish!

Funny!

And, of course, that means Adult Adultcontemporary Alternative.

Thanks for getting the joke.

AAA was never very Alternative. The guy who named the format is a former colleague; we had worked at a station called KXXN. We could NOT get people to remember the calls until we started calling it "The Double X". So he made up a format name that could be called Triple A. He just needed a third A.

As things evolve, some AAAs like KINK and KTCL have really become more like "Hip Hot AC" than anything Album or Alternative.

But would not a rose by any other name still smell so much like embalming fluid... I mean so sweet?

Hmm. I didn't know that. If they ever have "formats" on Jeopardy, I can go for $1000 now.

This is the same sort of thing that happened when R&R wanted to look different from Billboard and caused the Top 40 chart to be named CHR.

David "Eduardo" Gleason's 939exitos.com site has added a new tagline in the past hour or so: "Hecha aquí en Los Ángeles para tí."
The top of the site states: "Tu música. Siempre." (Your music. Always), but the interesting counter-attack is "Done (made) here in Los Angeles for you!" Then there is the logo for KLVE and a link leading to univsion.com.

So I guess its a turn of the proverbial knife at GRC for doing it in Mexico?

Hidden text on the page reveals these search words:

Exitos 93.9 Los Angeles Radio Juanes Shakira Camila Reik Pop

Smart! I can't believe somebody would launch a format without have up a web presence these days.

Anyone else notice this morning that their RDS feed identifies them as 'Exitos - 9 39 FM'. Small detail but still kinda funny.

By the way speaking of AAA, what's on 93.9 HD-2 now?? Anything?? They had a semi-interesting AAA format last time I was over there in May of '08...Of course, 98% of you probably never noticed.

There is a non-stop, non-announced, Mexican AC format there. Sounds like the music only from XEJP-FM in Mexico City.

They give the frequency not as "ninty-three point nine" but as "nine thirty-nine."

No, it makes no more sense in Spanish.

GRC dropped the ball on not having a website up and running. They should realize here the majority of the population has internet access. Not smart and David's move was brilliant!

Just heard "Lo mejor de los 80, 90's y hoy" Best of the 80's 90's and today.

Wonder where I've heard that before. Stereo Joya (GRC- Mexico City)'s positioning statement is: "La mejor música de los 80's, 90's y actual"

I'm surprised they didn't place La Zeta on HD-2. The only danger is ticking off the co-nationals who aren't from Chilangolandia (Mexico City), but then again, considering the low saturation of HD receivers, it probably makes little difference. They could even put El Fonografo on HD-3.

Yeah I doubt there's many latinos out there with HD radio. Anything "Chilangolandia" pisses off the co-nationals, but like DE said it all comes out of there. ;D I'm still baffled at the "9 39" and the lack of a website.

Agreed David's move was classic. Regarding the "9 39" gotta be a typo by the originator.

Nope, not an error. They are saying the frequency on air the same way, "nueve, treinta y nueve."

Anyone have an aircheck of the imaging? Curious to hear what it sounds like. No offense to GRC, but I think one of their weak spots in Mexico is imaging. Not bad, but it's not great. Although with PPM, and not as important as creating recall, it probably isn't as big of a factor as it may have been. Overall, I would say U.S. Hispanic radio is much better imaged. There are exceptions, have heard some very creative things down here as well.

How many local elements (news, traffic, etc.) does it have?

Their 9-3-9 is curious but highly innovative, although it may evoke the idea of being on AM. (Yeah, I know, we don't have 9khz spacing like the EU.) It is more common in Spanish to identify a station this way on the AM dial. "Nueve setenta AM. Cinco noventa, etc."*** Thinking it over again, actually does make a lot of sense in Spanish.****

I was thinking the exact same thing.
