Final Days for Movin 93.9?

The playlist has some good elements, but there are others that are just incredulous. Looking at yes.com, I saw a couple of obscure Eros Ramazzotti songs, and then a couple I would have never included in the format: Livin' La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin and Azul Azul's La Bomba. Although popular in their day, they are essentially "novelty" songs. It would be like including "My Ding-a-ling" in a Classic Hits format. There were a couple of other live versions of stiffs as well. Unless they tighten the playlist a bit, they ain't gunna make it.

Oye chupacabras check if u can how many times they have played the Laura Pausini w/Rod Stewart song. I think they played it twice within two hours. I agree that are gonna have to tweek the playlist. Also, I'm sorry but the time and temp after every single song is getting annoying. Señores at GRC, please you can't program a station exactly as it would sound in el D.F. It's 4:05 and it's 75. It's 4:08 and now it's 72, no wait it's 73 degrees. C'mon!!! The jocks must be bored out of their minds. It's 76 where? Downtown L.A.? East L.A.? Van Nuys? Anaheim? That makes no sense. Also they have stopped referring to the station as "nueve-trienta y nueve" "9 39." It's now Exitos 93.9. GRC has got to get with the program how radio is suppose to sound in the states.

I've been asking many people what they think of the playlist and it has been mostly positive. Everyone seems to agree the variety is excellent, but the lack of a website and the jocks just announcing time and temp seems very odd.

It's very easy to get variety when you play stiffs.

The target is 25-44 women, by the way.

I don't see any real threat from them David to the powerhouse that is your KLVE. The station cannot be programmed exactly the way it is in Chilangolandia. 75, 78, 71 grados 4:09pm 4:12pm, 4:15pm etc. Estan locos! ;D

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a STIFF?

Any song that is not a hit is a stiff. Some are born stiffs, some become hits and stiff out.

La Macarena is now a stiff.

I tried listening to Exitos 9-39... Nine thirty-nine??? It sounds like canned tuna... Packaged somewhere else and dead on arrival. If they have even the slightest impact on K-Love, it will be a milagro. This has to be a smoke-screen until the real format debuts.

I was listening on Friday (Apr 17) and heard the Eros Ramazzotti song "La Cosa Mas Bella", which is a translation, more or less of
his "Piu Bella Cosa" (in Italian)....never knew he sung in Spanish as well, although the languages are very closely related.

Nineteen pages for a has-been station and it's soon to be has-been replacement station! Man some people are out of their minds with way too much time on their hands. This new format is just going to shrink the slice of the pie for all the spanish language formatted music stations in the LA market. Who gains anything from that? The ownership of Emmis Broadcasting should have tried much harder than they did to make this station a success. The new management will have their hats handed to them, the LA market is a way different place than Mexico City! Although I know that David will be the first to disagree without even talking to him about it.

I don't consider a station that more than doubled their 25-54 over the last six months a has-been station. Fastest growing station in the market. As far as the replacement goes, we'll see how they do but it seems very broad and playing a lot of non-hits. Not good in PPM.

What you forget is that there are only 100 shares, ever, for all stations combined. And, second, Movin' had, over the last 6 books, an average of 60% Hispanic cume. But more important, 40% of Movin's cume came from Spanish dominant Hispanics... over 400,000 mostly-Spanish speakers who liked the music on Movin better than on any Spanish language station.

So a number of English language stations are taking cume and TSL from Spanish language stations... one station more or less will hardly affect the universe. In any case, an AC station will affect ony KLVE and KSSE to any measurable effect, and hardly be noticed by the other 10 or so Spanish language facilities in the market.

Emmis did, towards the end, a good job on Movin. It was up to a 1.8 in 12+, but the 25-44 and 35-44 shares were looking impressive. What hurt Emmis the most was the market and the economy, not its operations which would have prospered in a better economy.

They dropped that today.... it is 93.9 now, but their website has not changed (if that is what you call a website). The time and temp jox continue. It sounds like they are dropping the time over the ramps of songs, with the format coming from somewhere else.

Emmis didn't do a good job with Movin at all. They spent a ton of money on a number of different format variations from rhythmic ac to homeboy oldies and with the exception of the 80's music, which started just as a weekend idea, they're were spinning their wheels for over two years. They also spent more money in a short period of time than any other ad campaign in this century in Los Angeles and got nothing for it except making a fool out of their morning show star (the Rick Dees butt shakin' ads).

As for the last 6 months or less with the 80's, they actually didn't spend a dime advertising it on billboards, tv or the internet. It was basically word of mouth that got them any ratings at all but still didn't give them hardly any uptick in ad sales in the end.

The economy has only compouded Emmis' problems. It wasn't their main problem. What hurt Emmis is how badly they have managed their company (and especially Movin 93.9) and that they have became so desperate for cash, as they are now with their creditline totally maxed out, that they had to unload one of their only promising properties just to keep the company from going totally bankrupt. Which it will anyways. Just delaying the inevitable.

Once again, some of us, including myself 2 1/2 years ago said after hearing what a mess the original Movin format was that they should have either gone top 40 or played the hits Rick Dees did when he was at KIIS. I was right.

(the Rick Dees butt shakin' ads). LMAO Those were a riot! What a joke Movin was. It will go down with the many failed formats in L.A Radio history. Pirate Radio, Mars FM etc.

Movin was one of the worst programmed stations ever in Los Angeles...I rate it right up there with the likes of Rock With A Beat, KDL, 93.5 KDAY, V100 and various AAA formatted stations that should never have been in this market (including The Sound).

The last Movin format variation would work if tightened up, programmed better and promoted. It is the perfect format for 100.3 and Bonneville. They should flip today and get rid of The Sound which will never achieve any success.

Excellent point Glenn. I had a chance to listen to Movin's a couple of days before they went off the air. It was refreshing to hear some of those 80s tunes. The music was OK but the station could have been tweaked a bit. I agree that an 80s station at 100.3 could do very well, if programmed correctly for this market.

How bold.
I've pointed out their problems for 2 1/2 years. In this thread alone, I've pointed out plenty of mistakes they made.

Zeb, I thought you took your ball and went home in a huff a few weeks back? Didn't want to get into it with all those fact-based right-wing wacko's and long-time posters that make accurate predictions that hang out here...

Well, I'm glad to see you have forgiven us and you're back for more. Welcome back!!
