Finally... a CW station for North Florida

In case you haven't picked up on this story yet, North Florida has gained it's first CW affiliate. Gray owned WTVY Dothan/Panama City was named as a CW affiliate yesterday. WTVY-DT will be starting a new digital sub channel to carry the network.

This brings up a couple of questions for the Panama City TV market. What is in WBIF's future? Since Gray seems to be starting up digital sub channels all over the country, will WTVY's sister station WJHG start a digital sub channel of it's own (for MyNet or to simulcast CW from WTVY-DT)?

As of March 22nd, we still haven't had any CW announcments for Jacksonville, Gainesville, Tallahassee, or Pensacola. North Florida's only MyNet announcment so far has been WFGX Fort Walton/Pensacola.

It was announced early on in Gainesville that the current WB cable channel (10 on Cox Cable) would get the CW network. It is assumed the current UPN affiliate (Ch. 31 LP) would become independent. I wonder if they will keep their Ch. 11 spot on Cox Cable. UPN seems popular with the students.

From the 01/25/06 Gainesville Sun:

In Gainesville, the CW will air on Channel 10 - The WB's current station, said Todd Senter, general manager of WGFL-TV, Gainesville's CBS affiliate that manages the local WB and UPN affiliate stations. Channel 11 - which UPN airs on locally - will likely be replaced by independent programming, Senter said.
