FINALLY.. an FM TALKER BUT..

94.5 W233BH-FM is on the air broadcasting a talk format, however, due to it's weak signal, their signal will be clobbered by Panama City's WFLA 94.5 translator. A step in the right direction.

Also, 1400 is the original source now. how many format changes has this station been through?

It's new calls are: WFDM-AM

THE GOOD news is there is a CP for a power boost, small as it is, hopefully us here in no man's land AKA Navarre will be able to hear it. Heard Dave Ramsey today and a lot of ads for Niceville, Navarre and the local area. I doubt with WFLA's 100KW signal over Panama the Commission will allow for this station to have a broader signal.

There's been another thread about this but, I don't know if anyone mentioned this as I was away up in Raleigh (who has a full powered FM sports station, BTW) for thanksgiving.

Has anyone heard George Noory on 94.5?

BTW, I wonder if their transmitters are what I saw while driving past the FED EX building downtown on the way home. There's 3 of them, one of them being a cell, don't know about the other two (that thread is probably long gone)

Rob

NO, I tuned in last night to see what was on, I was getting WFLA and some mississippi station.

I wonder if they go off from 12-6 am?

As usual Rob has his head up his rear end......

The 94.5 translator in FWB belongs to WFSG in Panama City (FSU's NPR repeater for Panama City) it retransmits 89.1's signal. I think Hale was trying to buy it....maybe he did.

This translator KEEPS WFLA from being heard in Ft Walton Beach....in fact whenever the translator is off the air, the WFLA signal is very listenable there.

Your turn Tibbs..........

Oh one more thing......Rob, there is this really neat thing called the internet...and what is really cool is that you can hear junk like George Noory (sp?) streaming there.....it is not a requirement that you wear a tin foil hat and have black helicopters flying around your house to use the internet. Just thought you would like to know that.

Is medical marijuana legal in Navarre? I have no explaination for this. I guess Hale had his $20k to buy that crappy signal. Ramsey didn't sign-on on this station, I pray. I will research. In the mean time, now that the electcons are over, wonder if radio will really have the growth this year. I just read a horrible study that seems really accurate (sadly.) Let's just say WPFM is going to be worth 100k in 2015. Hmm. When we all retiring and heading back to see Charlie's Angels in paradise? I will bring the foil for rob. Rob ~ how was Raleigh? Is this a possible re-lo idea? Mapquest says direction denied.

Funny.. what I heard WASN'T NPR. So my hand isn't up my ass.. It was Dave Ramsey and an ID with city of license in Nicville and then they ID'd AM 1400.

I don't know about a move to NC yet. Maybe not for a while.

-Rob

The WFSU website no longer list 94.5 as one of their translators. Interesting.. glad I heard 'em a year or so ago. Maybe, just maybe your boy, Rob, hasn't flew over the cuckoo nest........ yet

His best works was "the shining" (I forgot his name)

1400 AM is on ATM, weak as it is out here in the stix. The FM isn't.

With the transfer of ownership and this power upgrade, I wonder why they didn't apply for a different frequency? Everyone knows WFLF-FM 94.5 is a very strong station along the coast... all the way to the Alabama state line. WFLF-FM is just going to kill the potential coverage of W233BH. Using the frequency of an inland station with poor coverage of the coast would work out much better at this location. Fort Walton is a small, compact, town. Another frequency (maybe 97.1 or 97.3?, maybe 107.x?) at 225 watts from the top of one of the 500 foot Hollywood towers should blow away the current coverage of 1400 AM, but it'll still be pitifully weak compared to their flagship 3000 watt, class A, WTKE 100.3 at the same height.

Rob, your calling this an FM talker. Are you sure 1400 has really changed the format from Sports talk? What I heard on WDSP in Defuniak Springs a couple weeks ago was still "Z-Fan" sports talk. What non-sports talk shows are airing on 1400 in FWB now? It it even possible to compete with Cumulus and WFTW?

At the time I heard it, it was "news talk" unless im crazy!! He could get on 94.9 but.. *HIDES
(if he's reading the forms...) yea, get off of 94.5 or you will have zero that's zero listeners!

I can picture other frequencies you could use.. 93.3 102.7 98.7.. JUST KIDDING

99.1 and 101.7 are also nice and open. to whoever owns this.. contact the FCC and apply for these frequencies. just DEW it.

What sucks about this is I used to listen to Dr Drew on Tampa's 97.9 until 98.1 went 100KW (or was it always 100KW?)

98.1 has been 100k ever since you've known it Rob. It used to broadcast from a tower up at the Alabama state line (same area WFBD TV channel 46 uses now). This caused 98.1 to have a weak signal in the Redneck Riviera, making it "the baby that should never have been born." Now that 98.1 is on Hollywood the signal is fine. That's why I don't understand this translator on 94.5. The Panama City stations have line of site over the water and are BAD frequencies to use in FWB. Heck, the 250 watt 92.5 WHEP translator over here in Foley doesn't even reach out very far to the east because WPAP is just so strong. Find a frequency with no stations south of the Alabama state line and there shouldn't be any interference problems in the FWB metro except on Eglin AFB... and who cares about the signal on Eglin property? They need a signal that will cover FWB and Destin to matter. Juana's Pagoda to AJ's is about the best they can hope for on a car radio with this new "baby", and that might still be a stretch.

Is changing frequencies even an option for the 94.5 translator? I'm beginning to think my idea that K-Rock would return to 94.5 is not going to happen.

I am not one to underestimate the powers of CCENGs soon to be best friend - RH.
But, yeah, lets see, this guy has managed to "buy" some signals and dammit if he was as
good at talking folkz into sellin them stickz as he was, you'd think he could sell tin foil to the tropo
king and done built and kept that little empire light a shinin. Somewhere in the mix is a disconnect for sure and 0h Hale, like me, isnt a fan of three letter govt agencies (mine are just a different industry now) -- FCC, FAA, IRS, CIA, ESA, FDR, Supreme Court, FLY, P0S. Wait, that last one is mine. My point is, yeah, the new 94.5 has bout as much power as a unplugged strobey plugged into robs, uh, outlet. I dunno how RH'll pull this one off, but if anyone can, it'll be ron. And somehow that newly Wooten designed and improved WFLT (Fleet) 94.5 is gonna get a West End enema from such a minute signal that the likes of every radio pirate will board an illegal bus bound for Navarre just to get inspired. Since this station costed like $20k, how much advertising will it really need? This has to be about the last flicker for this flame. Its a small town and I cant believe there's still one person left in Dodge thats buying any snow from an eskimo. But, as many know... theres a Tibbs born every minute. This maybe the new real baby that shouldnt have been born. You don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask off Lone Ranger and you dont mess around with CCENG.

98.1 KROCK because we have too many country stations, http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb391 here's the spring ratings.. and country doesn't even dominate the top anymore!! HURRAY!

Does this mean were starting to see a listener shift??

(waits for the fall's to come up)

-Rob

Damn Rob! I had no idea there was now a 3 way Country tie in FWB.
Country 105.5, WAAZ 104.7, and Highway 98.1 are all tied up on that ratings list. It's simply amazing that Highway 98.1 could pull that off in less than a year!
What are they doing right over there? Is the power alone enough to pull those ratings?

It's too late to edit my last post so I'll add another... is this a three way tie for the first place Country station or a three way tie for last?
