Finally some action in Tucson!

About time there is some action in the Tucson section! I can no longer see posts dating back to 2010 or even spring/summer 2011 on the Tucson section home page!

Anyway, since there is action, I guess it's safe to start some form of format predictions and/or suggestions here... and I'll go first! I believe that Tucson may actually have room and audience for a good chr battle! I wonder how a good CBS or even a Cumulus or other owned chr would do in Tucson? I'd say if one were to ever be tried, now is the time, while the population continues to rise as the radio dial still remains rather bland.

A well programmed party station style chr with great on-air personalities and better specialty dj mix shows featuring more exclusive music at set times could probably shake KRQ up a little or force them to get more creative with certain features.  It would probably trouble KOHT a bit as well.

How about an old-school AOR station - I hear there's a legacy set of call letters for this market floating around out there in the ether just waiting to be used!

There are three... count 'em... three.... jockless FM's in Tucson right now.

92.9, 97.5, and 106.3.

At two of those stations - 92.9 and 106.3 - the belief seems to be that the money for talent is better spent on billboards.

Formats don't matter - bottom line does. And that doesn't seem to include disc jockeys.

KRQ and KOHT seem to cover the Rhythmic and CHR bases quite well. Can't hear this happening in the current radio environment. There are no CBS stations (that I know of) and Cumulus isn't about to do anything adventurous or anything that will cost money.

One would think that the KWFM call letters would work well on the 92.9 frequency... even with the mindless, jockless MY 92.9. The Tucson CC Manager(s) are really CLUELESS!!!
