I caught a bit of E-skip here in the Hudson Valley Thursday (8/3) in the early afternoon from the Iowa-Minn-SD area, first productive DX session here in over 2 weeks. Three new ones logged:
11:59am KTPR-91.1 Ft. Dodge, IA 1049mi.
12:06pm - KWIT-90.3 Sioux City, IA, “FM-90”, 1145mi.
107pm - KCMP-89.3 Northfield, MN Minnesota #42. 985mi.
Also noted previously logged: B-93.7 KBRK-SD strong, and Mix 94.9 KMXK-MN.
Also heard “K-Love” on 94.9. I assume it was Aberdeen, SD, previously logged in June 2004 as KQAA “Oldies Radio”.
UnID: “Oldies 93.9” playing 60’s oldies, and only identifier (heard at least 3 or 4 times) was “Oldies 93.9”. I have a hunch it’s KKRC-MN, but can’t tell for sure.
On another note, one bad habit radio stations around here have is leaving the unmodulated carrier on the air when they are not broadcasting for some reason. Today, this happened after some thunderstorms rolled through with WZAD-97.3, which was off most of the evening until after 9pm, and WGWR-88.1 which was off for a shorter period earlier this evening. I’ve noticed several other area stations doing this, including WVKR-91.3 which has done this a number of times. Do stations everywhere leave on unmodulated carriers? Is it legal?
