Finally - Spring book out today.

Your concern is precisely why the FCC "created" the non-commercial part of the FM band; stations that were financed by other than advertising that could serve the audience in a different manner than those whose ability to serve was first and formost determined by the ability to achieve advertiser support for the effort.

Sorry David but I must disagree with you here. Corporate radio is about one thing, and one thing only... Greed.

There's a huge difference between earning enough money to pay the staff and the bills, versus stuffing the wallets of Corporate CEO's. Sadly the latter is where we are today, and it's just wrong.

ok robert, what would you like to do about it? if non-coms were any good, more people would listen. people LIKE commercial radio. it is the best value for your money out there...it's FREE, it's LOCAL, commercials, like anything else, in moderation, is a service. try this, don't listen to anything but non-coms for a month, no, make it a week...then report back. i await your report.

I'll beat you to it... I have been listening to nothing but a non-comm, for three years. So in my personal opinion, non-comms have their own set of pros and cons.

I'm pleasantly surprised by KZPS. Even though it is playing mostly classic rock most people know, the amount of music they play that is less familiar (old rock songs not played heavily on most classic rock stations and some of the Texas country/Americana music) is pretty significant.

Agree. Kudos to them for trying something really different. They really stand out on
the dial, too.

And let's add kudos to KLTY. Another Top 4 showing in the 25-54 cell. Can't think of
another Contemp Christian station in the country near as good as they are (understanding
some non-comms show up really well in certain other markets). You wonder why their
magic doesn't show up on a bunch of other Salem stations. But, they definitely got it
goin'.

WARNING! Since I last got tangled in this thread, there has been a nasty outbreak so be prepared... see I got these two pennies making noise in my pocket. Not to mention, Old Faithful DE got jiggy with it. SIGH.

Regarding KLTY and that ol' Salem magic, KLTY is an anomaly. CCM listeners are if anything, loyal to the bone. There aren't several pre-sets, there is one. KLTY is it. Their morning show used to be great for family, good for laughs and nice on the ears. Jon Rivers and his amazing pipes were blowing up the books back in the K-LOVE, 94.1 to 100.7 to 94.9 days. Frank Reed is on, but you know, there's that loyalty thing. Salem has tried to catch lightning in a bottle, but discovered the Scott Wilder was just a bug that fizzled out. They will always be this great because they understand the marketing machine and they hit churches right where it counts... in the pews. Magic? Nah... just math. :D

OH GOOD NIGHT.

D.E., dude... either you have this friggin' blog set up on an alarm via your text messenging device or you just have nothing to do between board op shifts. Read this carefully, "e-m-o-t-i-o-n-a-l-i-s-m." We encourage your heady responses when you are on-point, but when your erratic and lubricious screeds take up half a page, that's not blogging, that biyatching.

But hey, it's not everyone that can say they have more than 10,000 posts in Radio-Info. Mazel Tov. ;D

Yeah, I think I will having a festive bash at Iron Cactus or something when I break the 300 threshold. You know, something DE did back in... um, 1978? ;)

welcome back my friends to the post the never ends

we're so glad you could attend, come inside come inside....

itcouldn't have been 1978, DE was running 120 stations in Puerto Rico at the time. He couldn't manage the volume as of late....hey...wait a minute, wasn't there some mention of the initials DE in the BALCO hearings? Y'know, come to think of it, DE does seem "bigger" now than he did back then. I suspect performance enhancing drugs.

Actually, participating here is extremely enlightening. Even the most off-base and inaccurate post can cause me to reasearch the real facts, and I learn more about topics that way. Since I have frequent breaks while at airports (4 to 8 times a week, on average) or while on lunch or at home, this a lot more fun than watching UTube on the iPhone.

I haven't touched a board since... oh, heck, Monday.

Something about ratings gone a muck, good times with keeping it real and DE's executive platinum flight status. Ah, let's find another thread to tangle ourselves in, shall we?

I think this thread was covering two topics: Consultants will never be capable of steering modern commercial stations without an understanding of how revenue must be a factor in programming decisions. AND, how former ad reps from the last century have been left behind the times. Only capable of buying free weeklies and national cable for thier clients...er..friends...I think.

Oh yeah, the third topic about current reps that need an explanation of what a CPP (Cost-Per_Point),
rating and share are.
