Find a place for Amy at HJY

While putting her on B101 seemed like a good idea it's obvious she has nowhere to go with this afternoon shift. While she was never edgy at least at HJY she could display a little cockiness that worked well.B101 is not a cocky station and is turning pretty lifeless after morning drive.

The morning show is good and targets the audience well.No one will ever call Ed McMan a bad dj but he is voicetracked from out of town in spite of his attempts to pretend he's there and he cannot shake the detached AT40 approach.Amy is clearly disinterested unless she's interacting with Jim Ventura.I'm not even sure she does phones.Nights are done by Tom St John who sounds like a smooth jazz dj playing Rick Derringer.

The music is fine but the station needs life as they are becoming too "Coast-like".A good place to start would be to move Amy back where she belongs even if it's as part of the HJY morning team.

I disagree with putting Amy back on WHJY.B101 is not her cup tea either but her other major format was Classic Rocker WWRX.When Amy started on the Bee they were leaning towards classic rock hits of the 70's.Now who the hell knows.
If you are going to put Amy back on WHJY,put Bruce back on the Bee.

Bruce no longer fits the Bee. As sad as it was to see him and Big John Bina leave, neither one was willing to leave the 50's behind with the rest of the station. Had they accepted the change and moved forward, they would probably still have their jobs. Instead they were trying to force the management to keep the format they way THEY wanted it. Believe me, I've been out to a couple of car shows with Cruisin' Bruce and that's the story he's telling ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN. He's very bitter about the whole thing. Not a formula for career success. When change happens you better adapt or you're gone.

As for Amy ... it's pretty clear she's not happy with what she's doing. What the hell would she do on Paul and Al's show? Maybe she could do something on Coast? I don't know. It just seems like she hates being there. No effort. Flirting with the traffic guy doesn't seem to cut it.

The music on B101 is strange at times. The specialty shows they have running at night are terrible and should be dumped. But Tom StJohn is a musical encyclopedia and is a valuable asset to them. To be honest with you, I am listening to the Bee more and more though, I think it's an interesting evolution going on there and some of the best radio going in Providence when it comes to the morning offerings.

If it's true she isn't happy at B101 how could she be happy at Coast? It was her decision to get back into radio. I don't think she's at the wrong station but maybe the wrong shift, but then I guess middays are out of the question.

Do you REALLY believe Bruce & John were let go from the Bee because they "weren't willing to leave the 50s behind?" No way ! They could both have come to work every day in disco suits doing the hustle..they still would've been pushed out: it was all about money, plain and simple. When you take the two longest-tenured employees and boot them both on the same day, it screams "bottom line" which is what Clear Channel is all about.

And honestly, can you blame either of them for being bitter about their sudden and unexpected departures ? Say what you want about "formulas for career success:" they were screwed by the bean-counters, plain and simple: it had nothing to do with their talents..and I believe both will continue to do well based on those talents.

Sadly, I haven't heard John back on the air anywhere yet..don't know if he left the area. But I have caught Bruce on 103 in Boston, and he still sounds good. How could it be "unwillingness to leave behind the 50s" that got him canned in Providence if they're happy with him at Oldies-103 (which also has long since left the 50s behind) ?

Radio-Active your right with your post. In CC's mind why pay John Bina to do his shift when Ed Mcmann can voice track WWBB/WHCN & other CC stations. Why pay Palmer's huge salary, when Amy can do the shift for less? May I also say that Palmer is adapting well at his gig at the CC sister station in Mass. Which is far from oldies/Classic Hits as you can get. As far as Tom St. John being a musical encyclopedia. I have my doubts. His style is more for 99.1 WPLM. Then any version of WWBB. But he is the MD/IT guy. So unless CC wants to cut or modify that job position. He along with Gary Trust won't be headed for tribal council. Just yet. As far as the morning show goes. There are better more personality based shows just down the dial.

Absolutely! B101 had stopped playing 50s music long ago. The transition was gradual. There were some instances when the station's music became a topic of discussion here & Bruce would respond in support of it. That doesn't sound like resistance to me. Big John was never about the 50s with a Top 40 background & Bruce's style is perfect for even a classic hits station. Format dissension that goes on behind the scenes is normal & can actually be good if a PD is willing to listen to input even if he has the final say. 10/2004 was a sad month for Providence radio & the listener lost even if he kept listening.

Was Earth, Wind and Fire ever known as The Black Beatles. I remember someon known as the Black Beatles.

As for TSJ being a musical encylopedia so is Bruce.Nothing against TSJ but Bruce sounds more knowlageable on the air.I have not heard TSJ disscuss music so I can not comment.

I hear the un-interest in her voice too...how many of these breaks do we hear from her now?...."B-101 big hits of the 60s and 70s, here's (insert song title and artist here) on B-101.

STEP IT UP A BIT AMY...somewhere between that, abd the droning on of McMann would be nice
