Finding Surviving Episodes of Series?

Hi

Is there a definitive Web page, or any recent book, out there, that lists (hopefully in alphabetical order by series name) any status of where to view surviving episodes?

I have bookmarked Paley Center in NYC & hope to visit there in June, but even they are missing series. in fact, some shows are on YouTube that aren't at Paley....

There is one YT clip in particular where a famous blooper is shown (the game show "Say When" when Art James' live ad for Peter Pan beanut butter went awry), and much more is shown that what is seen on the blooper shows. However, yet there is no link or info on seeing possibly that whole episode, which I'd like to see.

Any info out there?

Stanislav (contributor to tv boards here) may have an idea or two.

Unfortunately, all my great ideas tend to die in committee... :D

I don't know offhand of any central database that would list what survives and what doesn't from TV shows. You kinda have to deal with what you're looking for on a case-by-case basis. For something like an outtake from Say When, seek out the various game show enthusiasts' websites -- they are usually pretty knowledgeable about what's available (over or under the counter) and what's not. Game shows of that era have an almost universally poor track record of preservation, and the clip you mention probably survives only because someone dubbed it to an in-house blooper reel before the entire tape was wiped and reused.

Yes, I'm a fan of classic game shows. I do know a few folks of which I have traded tapes with---I also know one person in particular to whom I can write.

It'd be a shame if only an outtake of a show survives. (I thought that actually aired on the day of broadcast---maybe not---the "commercial" was well over 1 minute.)

Try Http://www.museum.tv/html. That's the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. To watch programs in the archives, you will need a user name and pasword, but it's free and programs are grouped by title, or category. They don't have a queue, so you can't pick more than one at a time, but it's still fun!

I know it well! It was the only place to find "Music Bingo" with a youthful Johnny Gilbert.
