Paul Finebaum is switching sides.

After more than 13 years at WERC-AM, the controversial radio talk-show host told station owner Clear Channel Communications on Thursday night that he plans to join all-sports station WJOX-FM.

Finebaum's decision ends weeks of speculation about what he would do when his three-year, six-figure contract with Clear Channel expired. That agreement ends today, and Fine-baum could go on the air at WJOX as soon as Monday.

A thought and a question:

1) Without Finebaum, WERC is just another repeater of syndicated talk shows. Their morning show hasn't been the same since Tommy Charles passed away in '96.
2) Any word on what WERC will be airing from 2:00-7:00?

WERC may follow WGST/Atlanta and move Dave Ramsey to that slot, followed by Mark Levin. In late November, WGST let go morning host Tom "The King" Hughes, mid-mornings Denny Schaffer and long time afternoon host Kim "The Kimmer" Peterson for an all syndicated talk station. Tom Hughes was replaced with a 3 hour repeat of The Wall Street Journal Report, Schaffer with Premiere's Mike McConnell and Peterson with Dave Ramsey. Currently, WGST only has 3 hours or local programming, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Clear Channel took a station that ranked in the top 10 in the 90's and ran it into the ground. Basically, they threw in the towel to WSB.
