Finn, Globe: High Marks for Sports Hub, EEI

A lot of those daypart jumps back up my feeling that programming was never the issue at WEEI... it was the delivery method. After one month, (25-54) Dennis and Callahan went from 5th to 2nd. Mut and Merloni went an incredible FIFTHEENTH TO THIRD! Big Show 6th to 2nd and the usually strong Planet Mikey 2nd to 1st.

The market can definitely sustain two different sports stations for two differing tastes.

And all of this is skewed to a degree, since the Sox were finishing up the swoon during the first two weeks of the ratings period. That helped WEEI's night numbers. The front office and clubhouse insanity following that benefitted both stations. I expected a relatively strong opening for WEEI, and under these circumstances they got it.

Now things get interesting. The Sports Hub has the play-by-play advantage for the next few months with the B's and Pats. That will help keep their cume numbers high. With the Sox done and the C's locked out, WEEI will struggle a little. I still think 98.5 will have the advantage in the money demos moving forward, but with WEEI now on FM the advantage won't be as pronounced.

Now Entercom has a completely dead AM, that fell completely off the ratings chart with the FM move. WEEI was saved, but I still don't think they'll be able to make up that billing from sacrificing Mike. My guess is they'll try to deal 850 off if they can.

Radio-info reproduces the 6+ numbers at http://www.radio-info.com/markets/boston

Note:
--WEEI-FM (93.7) gets a good number but note the puny numbers before it...of course that may
mean the numbers "WEEI-FM Westerly" was getting here in Boston. If you scroll down
you will see WEEI-AM (dashes in most recent period) and WMKK is listed, but as sports
(and indeed it was still WMKK-FM for a time), etc.

Note also the streams for WBZ-FM and WFNX show up!
WXKS (AM) does indeed show improvement...thanks to Jay? But again take note these numbers
are 6+ , not something like 25-34, etc.

A long line of typos in the papers.
Yrs ago: Red Sox WEEI-FM (850) (Globe)
"WRPO (630) Prov. RI (Herald)

And for years Herald has had, on their scoreboard page, "How The AP Top 25 Fared". Once National Lampoon's True Facts
reproduced the headline and either someone did it as a joke or maybe a typo, but the last word showed up as "Farted" 8)

Finn proclaims it's an excellent outlook for WBZ-FM, and "the decision to move to FM is already showing signs of being a tremendously effective one for WEEI. "
I bet there were tears on little Chad's keyboard when he typed that. Another month like this and I expect to hear of a Finn/Heslam suicide pact.

No, it doesn't. Once Arbitron is notified of a call sign change and its effective date, they immediately revise their call-sign records.

Well whatever the case is, the radio-info page for 6 plus has "WEEI-FM" sixth from the top and the Oct 11
ratings are 14 times higher than the Aug 11 ones. WMKK's ratings were a lot higher than that.

Haters always wanna hate.

You'll notice one notable poster missing: the dude from WBZ-FM that was leaking the arbitron numbers. Now that the stations are on a level playing field, nowhere to be found.

They made significant changes. They will continue to do so.

Yeah, like what? D&C are the same, Mut and Merloni are the same, the Big Show's the same, Mikey's the same, the flashes are the same... what changed "significantly?"

Eh, lets see....they brought back DeAwful, Smerlas, Mustard, LJ, Stearns and all the celebrity callers. Sure sounds like significant changes to me. Can Burton and Burt be far behind???

The only thing that seems a little different about 'EEI is that the commercial breaks seem a bit shorter than before.

Otherwise...tastes like the same old meal...only served with a different gravy....YAWN!

The celebrity callers were never gone, and the new format of Ordway and Holley stays the same. So, the occasional third man in being someone who used to be on the station regularly is a "significant change?" Should I call the Herald every time someone takes a vacation, too?

I also noticed that we haven't received "kalandar's" report yet this month. I assume that he is of whom you speak. I think it was pretty obvious where his reports originated.
