Finneran...not bad!

I just heard him for a short while this morning and he actually sounded pretty good. It sounded like he'd been doing it for a quite a while. Did anyone hear him for a good part of the morning? What did you think? Do you think he'll catch on?

Only heard a couple minutes. Big name guests are being rolled out (Kerry, Menino, etc. upcoming--and someone
suggested Kerry be asked if he hates Howie). Seemed like callers weren't on for too long, just a minute or
two, but I think that's nothing new in morning shows. He called himself a conservative. This from the man who shot down the tax rollback that voters had voted in (this is why you're paying $150 more in taxes every year.
Thanks Tom). From what I heard, it just sounded like any other politico-turned-talk-host though Finneran
has something in common with the likes of Vincent "Buddy" Cianci: felony charges. And remember, TF
was never voted in state-wide; he was chosen by his fellow Reps. But that's the way it's designed;
neither Pelosi nor Reid were voted in by a national vote, either...

A couple people, perhaps hacks he put on the payroll, called in to say he was doing a good job. Just another
morning at what is now The Hack Station. Had CC put any money into AAR Boston, he could have
conceivably been a talk host there...

SaveWRKO.com mentions a couple times that a few callers may have been "plants", who called in
to say he was doing a good job. Whether the plants were Friends of Tom who got their jobs
through the hackerama or Friends of Jason & Julie, who knows.

While some of the callers were undoubtedly friends who wanted to support him (not really surprising), I heard at least two long-time regular WKRO callers say they were initially skeptical but liked his show. In fact, one of them, who I've heard call in at various times of day on different shows, said he's hooked.

So, sorry to disappoint you all, but some of this is legit.

And, he really isn't a liberal - he and Holly Robichaud, the Republican strategist on as co-host from 8-10 found themselves agreeing on comments about Clinton and foreign policy issues. He's a social conservative. It's really just the tax roll-back - I look forward to hearing more from him about that issue....

Re sounding good - being a voice snob, neither he, nor Joe Sciacca, nor Robichaud had voices I'd want to listen to. It's strictly content.

I'm still waiting for a solid lib on WRKO during the week. Conservatives still have Feinburg, Limbaugh, Carr, Savage, and half of Finneran. Not bad, I'd say.

Finn you're just like Dumber, defending this stupidity all along.

I was responding to this:

Avenue, I'm not trying to defend anything - I was responding to the cynical suggestions by Brian Maloney of SaveWRKO.com or Raccoon that it was all contrived. I know for a fact that at least a couple of callers are regular WRKO callers.

My comment about Finneran being conservative was in response to the suggestion by some that libs are taking over. They aren't - Finneran is at least half conservative.

Re, did he sound good? No, he doesn't have a voice that would I would like to listen to - but neither do Sciacca, Robichaud, Severin, Barnicle, etc. etc.

But will people listen to the show? I am making a prediction - I think they will. Is that 'defending this stupidity?' I wasn't trying to 'defend' anything. I just think this is what is going to happen. Like it or not.

Is this what I would personally want to listen to? Is it what I would program? No and no. Nevertheless, I think Finneran's going to be successful. And, I thought that was what this board was about - not just what we'd like to see, but will something work, whether we like it or not.

btw I'm thinking of taking a new username cuz it's just a little too weird to call myself Finn with Finneran around.... soon as I think of a name I like...

Didn't hear it but saw some video on NECN this morning. Don't know if I'd tune in that often. The voice saounded a little too much like what you might find on WATD or some other hobby station. Didn't do much for me, but then again, there are very few 'good voices' in Boston these days.

He has the area accent to be sure: Doahchestah...

People may listen but what about their TimeSpentListening? Will people go back and forth to
other stuff on dial?

What if they paired him with someone with a more radio ready voice...? What about Finn and Fein?
Tom Finneran and Todd Feinburg doing a debate show. The 10 am slot could be taken up by another
local or maybe someone like Beck or Stephie Miller. Hmm.

They could call it TF2 :D

Finneran's too conservative to be much of a contrast for Feinburg for a whole show. But, it would be great to have both of them overlap or co-host with a local lib.

I wonder if RKO alreadys knows it is really bad. I cannot believe this is what they have been working on for a year.
Does anyone think people would tune in again?

Per a lost bet I am compelled to post the following:

Tom Finneran has a great show.

Finneran sounded too much like a politician to me. Trying to be niice to everyone and making sure no one was offended. Aren't talk hosts supposed to be looking for powerful/entertaining not let's make friends?

aw come on. did the bet have anything to do with the show?

I refuse to comment further on the bet. Tom's a nice guy and all, but no matter how hard he tries, this ain't the biz for him.

i thought he was ok for day 1. he was somewhere between b- and b.
he's a good conversationalist. definitely an improvement over the fatso.

I'm listening at 8:30 Tuesday morning, and Finnean's talking with Sen. Scott Brown about his using the F word at a school while quoting internet postings about himself made by students.
Good issue, great give and take with callers.
GOP consultant Holly Robichaud is also fairly solid, although I wonder if she's going to be a regular guest or a co-host?
I like what I'm hearing. I think Finneran's got a good style.

I heard a little more of him today...he needs to listen he talks all over his guests. Also, I couldn't quite take his accent. All and all I won't kill myself trying to tune in RKO each morning.
