Finneran...not bad!

Also, I couldn't quite take his accent.

Kinda grating, isn't it?

ditto. and Finneran, Mihos, and Menino on together was almost unbearable.

(I hope Lucylu will back me up on this political incorrectness).

I'd like to hear from folks who have the accent - do you like listening to it on the radio? Does it make you more or less likely to listen? Cuz, for many of us who don't have it, including those born and raised here, it's a real challenge.

It's a little bit like rap - I can listen for about 10 minutes and then I just gotta switch to something else.

Can put up with Felon Finneran but Holly Robichaud - a Republicrat appologist for the Bush League Administration - has to go. Where ever she came from she should go back. Holly or Holli is not ready for primetime radio. Just another Republicrat hack on with a Democrat Felon Hack. One is enough. Two are intollerable

More than that Finneran's show is what Jerry Williams used call "Sleepy-time radio." Finneran doesn't have the pacing for morning drive. He might work at WBZ in the evening as when he filled in for the late, great David Brudnoy but not here.

Looks like another disaster in the works from the now married Julie "The Executioner" Kahn. Wonder if she is like Turndot....?

I have a bit of the accent, and I'm proud of where I come from, but hearing the accent on the air is something less than pleasant.

Give rap a chance. I fought tooth and nail to keep from listening to it, til my then-10 year old son hijacked the car radio during any drive longer than 5 minutes. Not all of it is good, like any genre, but not all of it is bad, either.

Mickey, thanks for your response. Thinking about it, there's a big difference between voices you want to hear on the radio and in real life. And, I think there's a big difference between voice quality and pronunciation. I just don't like Finneran's voice quality.

Re rap - thanks for the tip! I did listen to rap when it first started back in the day but I stopped when it became kind of obvious that I was not the demo the musicians were trying to appeal to (i.e. a woman who just isn't into being sworn at or called names).

I was once in a cab in Europe, the music was cranked, the lyrics were something to the effect of, "#@$% your mama" for the whole song. I was tired and asked the Muslim, English is his fifth language, cab driver if he could turn to another station. He hadn't been listening to the lyrics at all which was obvious when he started apologizing to me profusingly for having subjected me to it.... Pretty funny situation, but also pretty appalling lyrics.

Of course, rap isn't the only genre to have stuff that I'm not into.... Not having a 10 year old son I am not up on who's good to listen to these days.

Tis a shame he was caught up in the re-districting and supposedly lied.

Romney defended Finneran. Now, Finneran is physically conservative , what is needed to buck this new governor, whom I dislike and the legilsature. Catering to the illegals to get votes and spend money. Even if one does not like these individuals, Finneran, Bulger, Drinan, Moynihan all are products of a good Catholic education, articulate thinking individuals. Sadly missing today.

Ummm, he lied. He has admitted he lied on numerous occasions. No 'supposedly' about it.

What does this mean? Sorry, I attended public schools; perhaps that's why I don't understand. ;)

Think you'll be a regular listener of Finneran?....

I think it was the great David Andleman that once said, "Rather buying time than doing time"... I'll have to check my sources on that...

Finn,

You out there? I want your Finneran report today. I have a reason for hunting you down. Remember how we were keeping an eye on RKO weekends?

Well I'm a fan of Ellen from Saturdays voice. Ok, and politics. ;D I admit it, I've never called her Saturday show but I called with Finneran today. I woudn up hanging up when they didn't get to me.
She did a number on him regarding Tom Brady and the 'male point' of view. Good stuff. I'm still not sure what's happening on Saturdays but as long we have Braintree office open Saturdays, I have her on and it's better than anything else on weekends. So did you hear Finneran today? Because I think she was on 4 hours but I only caught them at 9Am and I'm home for holiday but wont' be able to listen to her after 9AM usually. I read in Globe he wasn't getting calls but i was only Day One then. Are they looking for co-host for him?

Hey Shotgun,

Been wondrin' where you were... Ellen is doing great! On Saturday she was on with Kevin Whelan for the second week in a row, and I thought that worked well. He doesn't talk all over her like other co-hosts do, yet is definitely conservative, so they have good discussion.

Today I heard her from 9-10 with Finneran and she's a perfect foil - she had lot's of energy, smart come-backs, he's the straight guy, she loosens him up, and when Feinburg came on, the three of them together were really funny - Ellen knows how to play each of them.

Re co-host for Finneran - everything I've read is that they are looking for a co-host with him, so they are rotating people through until they find something that works.

They've been partnering Finneran with conservatives a lot, like Holly Robichaud, the Republican strategist, Joe Sciacca, from the Herald, but it's kind of boring because they all agree too much. Ellen's much better because not only is she really liberal, her personality is a great contrast to his. She can (and does ;)) make him blush in two seconds flat. It's great!

I think Ellen's a candidate for a permanent co-host with Finneran. And, I think they should overlap with Feinburg from 9-10 - Ellen's liberal, Finneran moderate, Feinburg conservative. Their ages stack up well too - Finneran is older school, Feinburg is in the middle, O'Brien is younger. I would also like to see Feinburg with a liberal co-host. What I like is passionate debate sans bullying and yelling (sorry yoyo :() which is what all of these folks do.

Note to Johnnie B - since WRKO signed a multi-year contract with Finneran, I'm afraid we're stuck with him for a while. The question is, how to jazz it up to make it listenable.

IMHO, Finneran is a charmer compared to Michael Alan (Savage) Weiner who should be dumped given that his ratings dropped in the fall book as much as DePetro's did. I still don't get why they are using him in the evenings.

Finn, do you work in the 'RKO sales department? Finneran's a bomb.

Does anyone else think that the name "Finneran's Forum" sounds like the invention of some old-timie radio club? Having a retiree as the host doesn't help, either. But even the name sounds old.

Why not "Allen's Alley?" Or the "Lucky Strike Radio Hour?"

Cross my heart AvenueA, I don't work for WRKO. But, we read the reports that say WRKO signed a multi-year contract with Finneran. So, I conclude that he will be on the morning shift for at least a year. Having accepted this reality (you know the saying - courage to change what you can, serenity to accept what you can't, wisdom to blah, blah, blah?), I'm thinking Ellen O'Brien could be the co-host that makes it something I'd want to listen to. It isn't just her views. It's the contrast of her personality with his that made it fun. The only downside is that I also think it would benefit him to be on the air with a radio pro just develop his skills. I defer to your knowledge as to which is the better choice.

And, suppose they do dump Finneran, what are they going to do - put more yelling bullies on? Finneran knows more than anyone about how state government works. That would at least be of interest.

Who am I supposed to listen to? Howie Carr? Jimmy Severino? That punk? Imus? Not local. Savage/Weiner? he's so angry he's a freak. Graham? boring. DePetro? wanna-be bully. Scotto? at least he's a social libertarian. But, I never really liked his style and he's not an option anymore anyway.

So, I've got Feinburg who I find entertaining when he's not talking about how liberals have destroyed everything who I would like to see go back to 9-12 and paired with a liberal. And, I'd like to see Ellen O'Brien with Finneran from 6-9.

If you've got ideas that have a prayer of happening, I'd love to hear them.

Finn, I hope you don't work for RKO either! Or any other station...
I don't like the "Forum" title either. I'll be curious to see this week if I can catch other co-hosts/guests on the show. I heard Ellen talking about Brady around 8AM but I didn't listen after 9AM and you did, so she must have been on for a few hours. I did notice someone on this board (first page, lucy? ) mentioning how 'nice' finneran was. And I heard Ellen teasing him about being a people pleaser. This will be interesting and I will be watching and listening. I could use a good show driving down Route 3 every day so we'll see. Finn, speaking of south, have you heard Depetro yet down in R.I.? I was never a big fan since I think he revisited same topics and sounded whiny but I am curious. So I was wondering if anyone here has heard it. Is he slamming RKO or has he given up the ghost? Thanks Finn!
Do you ever listen to other talk stations because we could swamp some other notes from years/days gone by!

The pattern I've heard for Finneran is that he has a co-host from 6-8 (I think it was Joe Sciacca today) and another from 8-10.

Since you were away, I don't know if you saw this has a link to video of DePetro's first show http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,63605.0.html. This is the only bit that I've heard. I thought it was interesting that his old boss who called gave him two pieces of advice, to the effect of: 1) be nice to the callers, and 2) some politicians are honest (if I remember correctly).

where can I hear scotto? He did mornings on RKO for almost 4 years so I am sure stations were lining up to grab him. Anyone know which station he is on? Do they stream? I find it hard to believe that even the small stations around did not want him. "Your old pal scotto!"
where is he? Maybe he should try tv? or male modeling?
