Finneran out at RKO

Yes just saw. Herald

>>Former Speaker of the House Thomas Finneran said he’s leaving his post as a radio yakker on WRKO-AM, announcing on air this morning that Thursday’s show will be his last.
Finneran said on the “Tom & Todd” morning show that he will be pursing other “plans and opportunities out there in the real world” and will sign off after Thursday’s show. He joined the station in February 2007.

“We’re having a very amicable parting,” he said.

I wonder if his monologue was a nice way of saying that his contract was not renewed, and he needs to look for work.

From Finneran in the Boston Business Journal:

“Over the past several days, (WRKO Program Director) Jason Wolfe and I have been talking about various plans and opportunities which lie ahead for me and for the station,” said Finneran, in a press release. “Those opportunities are of interest to me, but are not compatible with the hours I keep and the effort I make to prepare for, and to execute, a well-informed show every morning.”

Since Todd F does 95% of the talking during the morning show, maybe they want to punish Howie by asking Finneran to join the afternoon show.

The full statement sounded like he was offered some other shift and turned it down. In any case, I look forward to a gleeful Howie Carr today.

If they wanted him they could give him afternoon drive in a couple months if you know what happens...maybe he was tired of mornings. Busy with lobbying. I don't know if he can run for
office again, being a felon. (Depends on the state. In his book about the OJ case, Det.
Mark Fuhrman said he couldn't run for office or even vote due to his "admitting to sufficient
facts" perjury deal)

Howie's heart may feel like an alligator re: Finneran but we won't know for awhile. Avi is on.
Now that I think of it I think he said he's be gone all week.

No, Finneran is leaving...though I will note that Barney Frank will be available to do shows
as of next January ::)

when i was a child Barney was a Saturday nite host on wbz, replaced Dan Rea

I don't know any particulars, but my educated guess is that given the economic changes in radio since Finneran first signed, he will have more upside and easier hours lobbying, so everyone shakes hands and parts friends.
