Fire coverage thread

KNBC just had their engineer, Dennis Doty, who is on-site, on the air and he said they are letting some of the extra "fuel" burn. There are a lot of fire fighting personnel on Wilson right now and they are waiting for some helicopter support , which is supposedly on the way. He didn't seem too alarmed, all things considered.

A water dump at 5,800 feet isn't easy to accomplish. Good luck to all up there. It's a great view – been there and done that – but not today.

My understanding is that not all the TV stations have a backup site, even the network O&Os. KTLA, if I recall has a backup on Flint in Glendale.

In the KTLA live shot right now, there is definitely a structure with a number of antennas on fire right now. Looks like a microwave and a lot of two-way com antennas.

That's down at the lower level, in front of the TV towers. The KTLA camera is at the base of its tower, as I recall from a visit. But it's a bad sign.

That's it, on Circle Road. The towers are up a bit on Video Road and Audio Road. It's a couple of blocks worth of towers.
 
Michael, could the RF you're seeing on 50 be from an out-of-area station partly receivable at your location?

I can confirm 28, 50, and 58 are completely dead for me in the San Gabriel valley with a roof antenna pointed directly at Mt. Wilson without any obstructions. I'm close enough to see the tower lights at night and the sticks by day.

Very little ENG is done with microwave these days, though. It's mostly done with bonded cellular data.
 
KSCI-18 is now gone too.

@edit 2.0 - Channel 27 (KSFV-CD) has apparently lost its STL (full signal strength, but black video on 27-1, 27-2, and 27-3).

Some of this may be attributable to lost Edison service and not having backup generation, as opposed to burning buildings.

I think it was just a fluke that I got RF on 50. The same thing happened with 58 for a few seconds. It could be intermittent recovery.
 
KABC 7 went back to network programming and is carrying ads for the first time since Tuesday. The main stations blew out normal programming and advertising over the past 48 hours. Lots of revenue affected. They do benefit having retransmission consent payments to subsidize them.
 
KNET-54 (54-1, 54-2, 54-3, and 6-1) is now also without an STL as well (black video).

So is 25-3 (Jimmy Swaggart's SonLife) but I don't know which transmitter that comes from (25-2 and 25-1 are from a different RF source).
@edit - Disregard the above. It's transmitted by KSCI-18.
