And, while LA is indeed the #2 market in population, it has long been the #1 market in radio revenue. The fact that it's market #2 helps immensely, I'm sure, as radio already looks better there than in most other places.

I think you meant "layoffs". Autocorrect is not always our friend. What if KFI hadn’t had those playoffs and was fully staffed to cover the fires?
And it is the station owner who both selects "Single Line Reporting" or not and to which station the total should be listed under.I didn't say it wasn't included. Factually speaking, it is. But only one is identified, and that one is the FM.
Nielsen calls it "single line reporting." Because it's a simulcast, they combine the AM & FM numbers for the FM signal.
The station only gets individual simulcast numbers if it pays for a special report. They do not get that data automatically.BTW the station can access the individual station numbers if it chooses. However, they are displayed this way for the public 6+ numbers.
I think some of the KTNQ increase was just "wobble". The station has no real news department and calling it "news/talk" is an exaggeration... it is really talk, but a lot of the chatting was indeed about the fires. The article only mentioned KNX-FM, and not the AM, but unless something has changed, Nielsen rates the two together. In any case, the huge increase in listeners for KFI, KTNQ, and KNX, underscores the importance of keeping AM radio in vehicles.
After what happened to the Chargers in their “playoff” game against the Jaguars that actually aired on KFI only, a couple of years ago. I think KFI wants nothing to do with “playoffs” ever again 🤣I think you meant "layoffs". Autocorrect is not always our friend.
(On that subject, I recall years ago with more primal autocorrect, Microsoft Word would suggest "beastly" when I tried to write about Beasley Broadcasting".)
