They were on top of the problem, and when they needed parts to get back on the air quickly, they knew who to call. I’m not sure that issue could have been handled any quicker, or any better.

The Westin site has been used since at least the 1970’s. Radio wise, 92.9 and 94.1 were there then. In the mid to late 1970’s, analog factory Ford FM radios would pick up both stations going into Rome GA. Of course, there were not as many FM stations or as much man-made interference back then. The tower and commercial AC power is already at the Westin site. To put a multiple bay antenna in the top of other buildings could change the “view” and then the NIMBY’s come out. If you can get the FCC to give you more height, I would think about a TV tower.
 
Anyone heard anything on the antenna replacement? I'm in Bremen and while it may be atmospheric conditions, it does seem to be coming in a bit better out here in West Georgia. HD signal isn't on but figured that would appear last anyway.
 
If anyone's wondering why no STA was filed, WNNX has a full-power licensed AUX they can use for any length of time without notifying the FCC.
Getting parts is a real bitch so...

And it is likely that many readers of this thread do not know that FM antennas are not stock items. They are pretty much built to order because they have to be custom "sized" to match each station's frequency.

I have only ordered an FM antenna once. It was in the early 80s. A four bay CP antenna that needed a six month lead time for delivery. I wonder what the lead time is post-Covid?
 
Depends on the workload at ERI, Jampro, or whatever manufacturer. These are essentially made to order, one at a time, so lead time is likely to vary significantly from company to company.
 
Will they replace the fiberglass "radomes"? I live in North Georgia and have I personally have not seen any other FM stations using them.* We do get some ice, but nothing heaters can not handle. Personal experience: heaters work in the Cincinnati and Louisville markets and they get a lot more freezing and near freezing precipitation than Atlanta. I have heard stories about a Tennessee station had their antenna (rings) wrapped with plumbers Teflon tape back in the 1970's. I don't know how much alcohol was involved.

* I am not counting "panel" antennas.
 
The radomes also increase the windload. I tried using some hydrophobic spray on similar elements a few years ago. Really repels moisture for at least few years. Was easy to do.
 
Maybe this is an optical illusion. I was driving south on the downtown connector in heavy traffic so I had time to "take in the sites." It appears the tower on top of the Westin is leaning every so slightly.
 
Any new word on when WNNX will be getting the new antenna, and will it be going back at the original location? Tough to pick up west of Temple and north of Alpharetta.

They have an aux site 4.7 kw at 1046ft. I wonder can they use that yet? The FCC site says it is a 12 bay antenna. Should work ok in autos but I wonder about building penetration. The signal use to regularly work ok from the Westin as long as the South Carolina whistle doesn't boom in. I have always wondered why Cumulus never moved out to the Fish stick with a directional antenna. They would lose some Southside and east of Stone Mountain coverage, but 97.1 has some signal issues south of I 20 too. A C2 signal will not cover the whole market with 60 db so if If you would check out the income per zip codes there is a lot more money north of I 20 till you get down to Fayette county and Peach Tree City.
 
I’ve come to the conclusion they are simply going to stay on the aux antenna and not invest any money on the broken main antenna. They’ve already put HD on the aux antenna. Why invest money on adding HD to the aux antenna when you would switch to the main antenna at some point? I truly hope they get it fixed. The HD tends to go in and out as soon as I go east of Snellville and Lawrenceville.
 
Do you think it might be a backorder problem? Not related, but I am the building and grounds chair person for my church. I had a 15 ton HVAC unit go out last week. For the particular unit, there is a 30 week backorder wait. I am hearing stuff from all over about parts and different kinds of equipment.
