Fires bring Cliff Albert out of retirement

KOGO this morning had the retired Cliff Albert on the air doing fire coverage. KOGO gets its news from outside (including out of town) sources so apparently had to bring Cliff in to have someone capable of handling a big breaking local story.

Cliff did a good job as one would expect, but could the fact they had to call in the retired guy give some clues as to why their ratings are in the toilet?

"KOGO - WHEN NEWS BREAKS WE CALL AARP!"

The old Escondido AM and FM stations once known as KOWN are in the San Marcos fire zone: the FM, now KSOQ 92.1, is on Mt Whitney, a peak in the middle of the fire. I think the old AM tower for what is now KFSD 1450 is on the east edge of the fire zone.

But looking at the available online fire tracking tools (which may not be totally accurate) the 92.1 site is several miles from the fire, and 1450 is in the zone but not within a mile or so of the fire itself.

The problem, with 10 or 11 fires, is that any one of them can move in any direction... and new ones can start. A friend has now been evacuated twice, and each time the winds have changed and they have let his family back in.
 
Cliff Albert not really "retired"

Just a bit of clarification – Cliff Albert never actually retired or fully left KOGO. He stepped down (or was forced out) as Program Director after 18 years at the end of 2013, but continued as a commentator, according to this post:

Listening to KOGO in recent times has been interesting. Some of the newscasts and traffic reports originate in San Diego while others come from the CC news complex in Burbank that also services Los Angeles CC stations KFI, KEIB, KOST etc. Michael Clark, Aaron Bender, April Martinez and others are heard on stations in both cities.
