And here I thought... "yeah... everyone BUT Colin".

Someone there DOES have ears and a sense of good taste.

Tuned in on a couple of occasions to Colin McEnroe online--JOHN MCENROE WOULD'VE SOUNDED BETTER THAN THAT LIB BLATHERSCYTE!

I read that they are considering an afternoon news block. Does CBS have the 'scarole ($$$$) for it? Too costly IMHO.

OBVIOUS THING TO DO--Hannity live 3-6, though he can also be heard on WELI and WABC. For me I am no fan of Pawn Vannity...he's a "golfer" wannabe. (FTR: The Golfer is a Savage-ism for Rush Limbaugh). I wonder though will WDRC's Talk of CT try to snatch McEnroe? I know WDRC is small compared to Mighty 1080 (except for Savage and Beck).

If they are expanding Sound Off CT with Jim Vicevich to 9-noon--GOOD ON THEM! I like that program.

Personal note on Diane Smith, I had a couple of times when I was at CT Public Radio when they had their Stamford office open (10 years ago) and Diane came by on a couple of times to do some voice-overs for Positively CT. She was OK on Action News 8 back in the day and an interesting woman to meet in person.

Wonder if WNPR will try to sweep her up? She could also still be producing Positively CT at CPTV. Maybe she could fill in for Faith Middleton. To me Middleton sounds like the stereotypical local Public Radio host, the kind SNL lampooned during their last days of being funny!

I was surprised to hear the news.

Colin was a strange show, I would listen for hours, yet he rambled so much I had no idea what he talked about after he was done talking. Yet at the same time he was entertaining. I can remember a few times I spit out my drink laughing at some of the stupid yet comical things that would come out of Colins mouth.

Colins ratings were not bad for his time slot, with all the trouble that the Hartford Courant it does not look like 2009 will be a good year for Mr. McEnroe.

I am not sorry to see Diane gone, while I have met her on a few occasions and she is a nice lady I couldn't stand her interviews. When she interviews you hear a lot of "uh huhs", "ok's" and "mm hmmm's" and it seemed to me for many of the interviews she wasnt paying any attention to what the guest was saying but to kept acting like she was listening.

Other thing she did however she did with the utmost class and style, I just didn't like her interviews when she wasnt paying attention.

I also hear her typing all the time when Ray is talking, how about getting them a keyboard that does not click as much. (and BTW I can tell Ray likes to snack as I can hear him digging in the bag of chips from time to time as Diane is talking. :)

Does this mean WTIC loses a sponsor since there will be no more "Chet Chats"

I spent some time in the Hartford market in the mid 90's and at first, I didn't "get" Colin McEnroe, but over the years (I have periodically listened to him online), I've grown to greatly appreciate him. He's a long way from being a generic talk host, and that's a big part of his talent and appeal. I'll miss him for now, but I doubt that Connecticut has heard the last of him.

In a radio world that often rewards stupidity and juvenile humor over intelligence and real wit, Colin has been not only a class act, but also a successful one.

Mark my words--it's not an easy thing to hold on for as long as Colin has in the shift immediately following Limbaugh, on a station that has leaned more and more conservative in recent years.

We sure could use a few more Colin McEnroe's in this business.

"God, I hate tributes"

Famous last words. :)

Colin put out a great show everyday. I find it silly that someone wouldn't listen to Colin because they disagreed with his politics. They probably listened anyway. This state is definitely left-leaning, and Colin is a ratings winner not to mention a great talent. CBS Radio is clearly cutting costs, and WTIC will probably be all-syndicated soon enough. The reason Colin got it is probably because his salary didn't make sense to some accountant. A sad day for CT radio...

I didn't always "get" Colin's show, but in a sea of "all sounds the same" radio he clearly was a place to go rather than a place to flee from.

Most of the rest of what passes for talent in CT talk radio couldn't even get close.

Obviously the cuts were made to make the station more attractive to buyers. In a way that might not be a bad thing. Freed of corporate mandates to make "even more money" and assuming a buyer gets the station at a reasonable price the station might have a chance.

I dont know...maybe the mediocre Marty McGillicuddies that run these radio stations couldnt stand a bright Yale grad local guy who happened to be left of center. Who was probably MUCH brighter than the management running that station.....

Keep doing what your doing TIC...all your listeners will soon be 40+ Hitler sympatizing parochial angry white middle management going nowhere. Sort of like Brad Davis' audience...

Gee, why don't you just tell us how you REALLY feel? ;D

i was asked last year, to listen to several on-air tapes. I was searching for an afternoon host in a top 5 market.
one of the tapes was Colin. Bright, certainly, but my opinion, which I passed onto the station g.m. was definitive.
Talks in circles and never rally takes the audience anywhere. Very typical of liberal hosts. Bright, well-read but deathly afraid of any conflict.
the few libs who will tear into someone, do get numbers.
I am by no means a conservative. I get paid to hire people, who create ratings.
There is a Colin in every market. Sharp guy, but limited as a radio talent. Needs guidance virtually every segment.
In this economy, who has that time.
To all you Colins, may I suggest something. Quit being *******. Take a stand. Defend it.
Ratings will follow. Quit worrying about being 'smart' among your friends.

Colin McEnroe is an excellent writer and columnist but his radio show was mediocre. His abilities just don't shine on radio like they do in the print media.

I wonder if ANY of these new GMs know that the LCD concept of AM radio is one MAJOR reason people are trickling elsewhere...you may have a short term profits with an older audience...but you have planted the seeds of the deathknell of AM radio..

Congratulations...

The older generation kept the QUALITY and knew the concept of local service. Syndicated radio IMHO is lazy mans radio....its the easy way out of CREATING a good station. I doubt most of them remember that...when they had better ratings. Colin had INTERESTING guests...not just right wing parrots or screen picked scapegoats for Hannity and Rush to take a verbal dump on...

The modern AM/FM radio industry is truly going into the toilet....

I have to give CBS Props for waiting until after Christmas to can them.
This is just the beginning. How much could Diane Smith be making at WTIC-AM? $200k? Gary Craig is next and then Allan Camp. CBS is out to be lean and mean in the payroll dept. ::)

Sort of like Brad Davis' audience...

Brad Davis maintains that former Gov. John Roland is a decent guy???? I think he still has Patty Roland on the air????? This guy really needs his brain scrubbed with a wire brush. Does he have a clue?? ::) ::) ::) ::)

Glad to see Diane Smith gone. I never liked her, even back in her days with channel 8 in New Haven.
What are they gonna call the show now? Wake up with Ray Dunaway and The Co-Host to named later????
To start messing with a successful morning show on CT's only a 50k watt station is really KRAZY! ::) ::)
What's next run old Bob Steele shows??????

Speaking purely as an occasional listener to their show - Diane always had a bad habit of stepping all over Ray, while he was in mid thought. Very distracting for the listener. I would find myself reaching for the scan button many times. She would even interrupt people that she interviewed on the show with "yeahs, uh-huhs", etc. Not necessary...

BTW - Isn't it true that CBS was also providing her with local accomodations during the week? $$$$$
