on December 30th Flash had a station meeting and fired their airstaff. What a fun way to end 2006. I really hope first broadcasting is losing a lot of money because of that station

First Broadcasting should be ashamed! What a rotten business this is! Anybody that would want to work in it these days is crazy, dumb, and stupid! What's the F-ing motivation anyway? You have nothing to gain and everything to lose!
If it's really about the music I'll take my digital storage devices anyday over the radio business morons that think the public needs them for anything! What a bunch of garden slugs! Its a business! What a boatload of @$&*.
XM, Sirius, Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, and internet streaming is the way to go!

In case you didn't know "First Broadcasting" isn't really in the broadcast biz. They are an investment company that will buy, then upgrade the signal of a station and then resell it for huge profit. That's it! Maybe they have finally sold that signal, who knows. They wanted $20 mil for it, and even after the "upgrades" isn't worth it. Still a crappy signal in sacramento. They did the same with 103.9 (now lincoln, ca) and 94.3 in Jackson.
The airstaff would all have to be ignorant fools to think that they any longevity at one of First's stations. I do hate to see job loss, though, but it was inevitable.

Calling the staff "ignorant fools" is pretty harsh and uncalled for. Anybody in the business knows that this could happen anywhere and, unlike a lot of the talented professionals at other stations in Sac, at least the good people (locally) at Flash knew that this time would come. I only hope that they've been preparing and will land on their feet in no time.
As far as FB, this is just another example of how little they know about operating a radio station. They are amateurs with egos big enough to fill the state of Texas. Anybody who has worked for them knows that. Enough said.
Though the former staff may not realize it yet, this is probably the best thing that could have happened to their careers. Now they can pursue a job where they are valued and appreciated for all of their hard work instead of being "treated" to lousy paychecks and unimaginable stress. I hope they will each find a place where the phrase "radio is fun again" is more than just an empty promise. Good luck and best wishes to the Flash staff.

I've been searching for this nirvana known as "fun radio". I hardly remember the last time I'd seen it.
True... but one person at Flash has tried to convince others that the nirvana exists. It's been the tagline on his email since he got there. Wonder if it's still the same tagline or if it's changed to something like "Remember when you were on the beach? You are again!"

Sounds like they finally sold the stick, or are in the process of closing. This was in the works for a couple a years now, and it's no surprise that the time has come. Glad Susan still has a gig. Bet you feel pretty vindicated now, yourmom.

First Broadcasting is run by bankers and lawers who hate people and have a fetish for trying to make a dime at the expense of others. They were great at one point with great radio people who loved radio and have since been replaced by moron GM's who lie thru their teeth and sell out the people around them. Yes mr. GM that's YOU! The "flash employee's are ignorant" statement was assanine. They are all good people who grabbed a gig when it came up. I'm glad the Flahs employee's are out of hell and outof the grasp of satan. Hey First...Burn in hell, I'm sure you all have a place reserved for you...

Some here have misconstrued his comment about the pink-slipped Flashers. I've known Dave personally for years. He wasn't calling the Flash employees ignorant fools. What he was doing was pointing out the naivity of anyone who might think they have any shot at some sort of longevity at 1st because of their practice of license-flipping. I WILL grant you that while his wording could've been a little more "candy-coated" to avoid offending the sensibilities of said Flash employees or their sympathizers, he's not a mean-spirited guy.
That said, I do question this license-flipping thing and to what extent the "public interest" is even considered, let alone served by such a seemingly self-serving practice. Don't get me wrong...I'm all for being in business to make a profit, but when your sole purpose is to buy licenses just to upgrade and flip 'em to cram cash in your pockets, I don't see how the "public interest" is served. Isn't that a condition of being granted a license in the first place? I'm guessing license "renewal" isn't even a factor, since they apparently have no intention of keeping the licenses long enough to NEED renewal. Guess that's what the token "Public Affairs" programming and "Powerline" at oh-dark 30 on Sunday mornings is for...
